Trump was one of the first Americans to get the vaccine.
But why? He got Covid and recovered. He has the antibodies.

Of course. The risk of his getting Covid and then being made sick from it is minimal.

Quit spreading this BS. Getting the vaccine GREATLY REDUCES the risk of spreading Covid by a factor of like 20.
So what. He’s not visiting elderly care facilities or pediatric cancer centers. He’s an Olympic competing against a handful of other athletes who are likely vaccinated.
So he's entitled to rely on others doing the right thing?
Nice.

If it is true Hocker already has had the virus he has zero risk for being reinfected and therefore zero risk to infect any other person.
It would be completely unneccesary to be vaccinated as he already has natural immunity (possibly life long), also against socalled variants.
On the contrary INDEPENDENT experts state that you have 2-3 times higher risk for side effects from taking the vaccine if you already have had the virus. But why take the risk for side effects when you are gaining nothing by taking the jab?
as all sit- coms have taught us
science is for nerds

I know only two people who got sick with Covid so far.
Both then got vaxxed. Both got sick again from the jab.
Before vaxxing, get an antibodies test to see if you already had Covid
Europe allows you to show following
1. Vaccination
2. Recovery from COVID (last 180 days, equal to Vaccination)
3. PCR Test

Not sure how accurate or non-invasive the PCR test is. If that's the up the nose one, count me out. Surely science can come up with a better test.
I would toss 1. vaccination out and replace it with an antibodies test.
Imagine it gets released that you’re not vaccinated and suddenly people say stuff about your assumed religious beliefs and why they think you didn’t get it
Maybe it’s because he had contracted it previously and with the antibodies should be okay with not catching it again

Most of the responses are from two groups of people:
1. People who are vaccinated and think anyone who isn’t is an idiot.
2. People who are not vaccinated and think anyone who is vaxxed is an idiot.
Mixed with all of that there are people who make everything political or racial.
Then there are a few of us who will look at things case by case and think of the circumstances of each situation.

Unfortunately yes, stupid rules the roost here.

kobbs is wrong, but the risk of short term vaccine harm IS greater than the risk of him both contracting and having SERIOUS effects from covid.

yeah. i haven't looked at the breakdown of who is posting what, but I am 39, in perfect health, and I am fully vaccinated. I still support the right of others not to get it. Especially in the case of a YOUNG, HEALTHY ATHLETE.
We need to learn to live with this virus and let people make their own choices. This is at least the case as long as hospitals are not overwhelmed. If that happens again, I will look at the facts and possibly adjust my position.
This whole thread is stupid and fails to grasp any logical context to the situation.
The vaccine availability for Cole Hocker was at an inconvenient time in his season and training cycle when he was finally eligible. His coaches probably told everyone that they are welcome to get the vaccine as soon as they are eligible but if they have any concern of short term side effects, just wait until the season is done to get vaccinated. Cole is still in season having qualified for the Olympics. Case transmissions were dropping quickly by April and the delta variant has only become an emerging issue in the last few weeks. Postponing his vaccination is a calculated risk.
Asymptomatic and vaccinated athletes who test positive seem to be held out of events (I didn't look up the Olympic policy) regardless of their vaccination status without proof they are testing negative. Therefore, a positive test with or without a vaccine will likely spell the end of his Olympics. For now he should just maintain a small bubble of contacts, limit his potential exposure and hope for negative tests throughout the Olympics. He can get vaccinated upon his return home prior to going back to UO in the fall. Best case scenario he does well at the Olympics and is able to sign a large NIL deal with Nike and enjoy another season or two of college sports with his friends.
