LRC note: This thread was deletd by a volunteer mod in 2023 but now given the fact that Katir has been suspended we have re-instated it.

I'm interested in how he's recovering time and again from stressing his body to places only the top-30 or so performers all time did. In the 5. Then the 15. Then the 3.
agree
Just watched the race on youtube.
Two takeaways:
1) Not a full out run by Katir, he might be in 7:22-23 shape.
2) He has a very smooth stride and a well oiled upper body system. Seems, that his arms are no-nonsense and his torso is in synergy with the rest of his body, meanwhile McSweyns form fell apart in the last 200m. Katir reminds me somewhat of Gebreselassie, just taller. Maybe his torso + arms are giving him a way to breathe better and that could be a reason why he's not suffocating after the finish line.

What do you think provide the most volume per surface unit? A ball or a pancake?
His torso is bent like a banana and stretched out. The result is less volume and longer distance. He stride looks smooth, but hey, high jumpers look smooth too.

Yeah this clown has figured out that posture is the key to effortless 3:28, 7:27 and 12:50 in the span of a few weeks from virtual obscurity a year ago.
Poor little Haile w/ his itty bitty body showing all that closing strain cuz teensy little lungies can't pull in enough air.
Hey buddy no.1 and buddy no.2.
Upper body is not a still unit, but is moving and getting twisted constantly when running. McSweyn looks like he's holding his upper body stiff and therefore using more muscular strength than necessary.
Katirs upper body movement is superior to McSweyns and actually might be the more in synergy with the lower body than most elite runners, so that could be a clear advantage. The way your arms and your torso move DO impact your breathing and if you don't know that, then you're clearly a hobby jogger.

This is the stupidest thing I've seen posted to LR in weeks.
Do you know a lot of elite coaches that advocate anything other than upright rigid posture/torso? Because I'd have to imagine a sloppy wobbly synergistic torso movement would impact negatively on the push-off/drive phase of an athlete's stride and have virtually zero possibility of being a net positive. Drugs are Occam's Razor regarding Katir.
Go slide another thread if you need attention.
I genuinely want to believe some athletes are clean, but I find it increasingly impossible to believe Mohammed Katir is clean.
Take this progression for example:
2020 Results:
3:37 (1500)
7:49 (3k)
2021 Indoors:
3:36 (1500)
7:35 (3k)
A few questions/Notes:
1) What has the rest of his career looked like before running in Diamond Leagues? Any notable results? He's only 23 so basically younger than the whole BYU team.
2) Any defenses of him not doping? He's sponsored by Asics who doesn't have a credible superspike. So his performances can't be attributed to that nor can long periods of training without racing (because he raced last year).
3) Is he in the drug testing pool?
Please share your thoughts. Clearly looks like a doper in plain sight, but I hope I'm wrong.
I don't see how it's possible how he can cut so many seconds in a matter of months/a year*
Anyone who defends Katir and says he's clean needs to be apprehended by the police and/or FBI. This ain't rocket science. Use your head. Do the research on human physiology and PEDs.

Just read your post on letsrun.
One takeaway:
1) You are on more drugs than Mohamed Katir.
He is wearing a super shoe and, for him, they’re worth ~2 seconds/lap. That’s my guess. Or the other thing.
What I don’t understand is the cycling kit. How can he run so fast with that saddle pad in his shorts? Seriously though, I have never seen an uglier distance uniform.
And apparently, Shelby
It is blatantly obvious to us, but there are a few who have their heads in the sand. If this progression doesn’t scream “ to the gills”, then I don’t know what does…
Katir’s progression is beyond suspect:
2020 outdoor - 3:36, 7:44
2021 indoor - 3:36, 7:35
2021 outdoor - 3:28, 7:27, 12:50
In one year he went from an also-ran to the 5th person in history to go under 3:30, 7:30, and 13:00. He’s the only one to break each barrier for the first time in the same year.
This dude is doped to the gills.
Side note… he has similar form to Verzbicas

Nice username. But you forgot Bolt, M. Johnson, Coe and El G.
Lol. Just watched his 3000 today. To the gills. Not even remotely out of breath at the finish.
