I do appreciate the classic, clean look. It is better than almost anything out now. But it's a bit simple to call it the greatest ever.
Nice uniform

Simple is the point. No sht printed all over. Not too loud. Pops without being audacious.
“Look at that subtle coloring. The tasteful thickness.”
What else compares? Maybe if Nike revived the OG New Zealand look I’d be convinced, but national kits are a distinct class IMO.
Let’s see Paul Allen’s uniform
IMO, the best racing kit ever was the Bill Rodgers signature uniform from the late ‘70s, early ‘80s. Understated, functional, classy. Nylon tricot & mesh was the best you could do back then. The Frank Shorter and New Balance lines were pretty good too. In ‘85 Nike released the Alberto Salazar PR line, and that was a game changer while still incorporating a traditional look (in the racing kit anyway). If you could get it here in the US, the Ron Hill line from England was hard to beat. Also, the shorts made by New Zealand Splits were excellent. Anyone remember those?
Nowadays, I think the best looking kit is (was) the all black NOP kit for the men & the New Balance uniforms the ladies have been wearing lately.
I think Mo Farrahs red version of the 2019 singlet with the 4 gold stars on the front is up there too the Rosa kit always looks very nice tho

“No, I like singlets. Mo’s was just… a little too Communist-inspired for me.”

Pic?
Seriously though do those fabrics hold a candle to today’s? The Aeroswift singlets and race day shorts are masterpieces.

You're in luck. Tracksmith is selling BR inspired singlets and shorts.
I am surprised no one has bought the trademark rights for New Zealand Splits. Were they made by International Sports?
I agree with you 100%. Back in the day, what I referenced was the best money could buy. Today, Aeroswift can’t be beat. I’m jealous of all you fast folks nowadays, what with the “super shoes” and Aeroswift kits. Sure wish I could have tried these latest innovations.
Incredible! I just checked out Tracksmith - I had no idea! Now I really wish I were still racing. The BR line looks great and looks very much like the original. Kudos to Tracksmith - but $70 for a singlet seems a little steep (however, if I knew Bill was getting a piece of the action, I’d be more inclined to purchase).
I believe you are correct about International Sports manufacturing the NZ Splits shorts.
Of course he is. Did you actually go through the pictures? BR is in the frickin’ pictures.
I liked the Rio 2016 USA marathon singlets; the one with the holes in it. Cut a bunch of little holes in some of my racing shirts too, even though I usually just train shirtless. Really wish they sold those singlets!
International Sports did make the NZ splits shorts. I sold a bunch of them at the running stores I worked at. In fact they were so good that when AVIA started their first race team, they used International Sports NZ Split shorts and copied the NIKE PR line as their singlet. Also the NIKE PR line is the granddaddy of what NIKE has out there now. They were extremely lightweight and quick drying.
Ryun-era Kansas unis with the pink shorts
Very strong choice. Best "speed" kit, for aesthetics and what it came to mean, SJS's speed city file:///Users/palmers/Desktop/gettyimages-1243307988-612x612.jpg
If he tucked in that shirt, it would look 100% better. Shorts and a tucked in singlet look way better than spandex and much better than a droopy singlet
OP must be young.. because everyone knows the 08 trials had the best kits ever
Talking about kits:
Anyone else noticed Nike athletes running with the same gear for the second straight season?
Another hint at Nike pulling the plug in T&F?
