Yeah, Oduduru is not the same athlete.
And yeah so very ADG. That guy...
Beats Bednarek by .02 and Knighton by .04. Hate to say it for Kenny B, but the longer the season gets, the less convincing he is getting.
Someone get Edris some jelly
2-time defending World 5K champ Edris wins 3,000 by almost 4 seconds in 7:30.96. Similar results out of Kenya's 4th placer Krop the other day. Neither to run in Tokyo. I thought Mengesha (3rd in ETH 5,000m Trials) was racing here, but guess not.
Agree about Kenny B. All these sprinters have to be careful with running too many races. Training is also crucial. Smart workouts > hard workouts at this point in the season.
Disappointing race to see Murphy ran down by Webb at the line.
Not great 800m performances for some guys who had been running well, top 5 below:
Rank Athlete Nation Result
1 GILES Elliot UNITED KINGDOM 1:44.89
2 WEBB Jamie UNITED KINGDOM 1:45.12
3 MURPHY Clayton UNITED STATES 1:45.20
4 MCBRIDE Brandon CANADA 1:45.51
5 ROTICH Ferguson Cheruiyot KENYA 1:45.58
Jamie Webb a bounceback effort. Not great from Murphy, though his first race off the plane I suppose. Rotich ran great in Stockholm, so maybe some tired legs from the elder statesman here. Giles good win taking down some big scalps.
Tokyo favorites go home devastated...

Giles, Murphy and Rotich are all in Monaco for a rematch which will be interesting. Great lineup there.

Yes this is bad. Though I think Gardiner should be favored over Norman anyhow. Norman looked OK at USAs not at his best. Definitely not clickin on all cylinders.
1 GARDINER Steven BAHAMAS 44.47
2 DEADMON Bryce UNITED STATES 44.58
3 NORMAN Michael UNITED STATES 44.65
4 CHERRY Michael UNITED STATES 44.69
Deadmon was only 7th in the US Final and beats the top 2 here.
Anyhow first race off the plane for many, and ultimately a random meeting in Europe that will be forgotten if they build on it for the real action.
Also just noting there were a lot of guys on the men's side who were supposed to run here but did not:
Van Niekerk (400), Gebrhiwhet (3k), Mengesha (3k), Wale (3k), Lomuket (3k), Broadbell (110H).
That feels like an unusually high number.

Yet the grass always seems to time his season's perfectly. Always peaks at the right time period I thought that Bednarek was one of the Tokyo favorites earlier in the season. But it is starting to look like he peaked way too early.
is that McBride's first race in two years? Closed well, but off a slow pace (other than Tuwei who died).
Those also running Monaco may be better off not having killed it today anyway.
Thought Arop was entered as well? If running Monaco, then three in 6 days was too much anyway.
Edris needs to run in Tokyo.
Grace, too, but that's now how we roll.
Unless Amos is in tremendous shape, then the 800m is ridiculously wide open this year.
Elliot Giles and Oliver Dustin could both well medal. I'd be surprised if one of them doesn't. Max Burgin must be annoyed, to put it mildly. He'll have plenty more chances, but he could well have medaled this year.
The odds of the first GB 800 and 1500 double since Moscow are certainly shortening, even without Burgin.
Meanwhile, will a Kenyan make EITHER middle-distance final this year? If Rotich the old man is so tired after a run a couple of days ago, how is he going to handle the rounds in Tokyo?
Does anyone know where Wesley Vasquez is? He hasn't ran at all this year and isn't in Monaco, so I guess he is injured and not going to be in Tokyo.

Yes, this meet must've been paying big $$$, cuz I don't think for athletes besides the sprinters it makes much sense to run in both and Monaco is the meet of the season.

We could know more about Saruni and Korir soon. That being said, Saruni's finish gives him a shot for sure. Rotich bad race, but he's been rock-solid in past years. I don't think Simotwo looked amazing or anything in the Dream Mile, but he looked good enough to make the 1500m final.
I have a hard time taking too much away from Murphy's race. Jet-lag, maybe training through these meets, looks as if he had put in some tough training coming of trials, etc etc. I wouldn't want these races to get into his head though, so hopefully he isn't taking too much away from them either.
I have a lot more concern with Norman at this point. Will he have to be in mid 43 shape for olympic goal? Probably not, but nothing indicated he is going to be anywhere close up to this point. I think I would up the odds of Ross pulling off a surprise win in tokyo. I could see him resetting and coming back to match Wariner as a collegiate athlete winning 400m gold.
