He was spotted in Boulder on a recent weekend, so unless he was recruiting in Colorado in the middle of outdoor season it looks like he must have washed out. Or Shayne tugged his leash.
That idea is absurd. Culpepper has twenty years experience as an elite distance runner who competed at World and Olympic games, volunteer coached at a high school, and obviously prepared his son to be among the best recruits in the nation. He knows all you need to know, other than to compete in Europe in advance of major championships, and a lot more than virtually any college coach.
Those are some absurd assumptions. He didn't coach his son. In fact, he hired others (Hudson, Bosshard) to coach his son outside of whatever coaching his son could have got at Niwot HS. The sum of his experience wasn't opening the doors he knocked on first. If Wetmore couldn't even find room for Alan's career rehab on the CU staff... that's unfortunately a defacto blackball. And just because he knows that much doesn't mean he can effectively convey it to multiple and varying recipients. If rumors prove true, he's getting a golden parachute c/o Hoka.
Most end up as coaches somewhere. That's fine and all but I figured with a degree they could find something else? Granted I have a DeGrEe In ExErCiSe ScIeNcE and we see how well that worked out. lolz.

It is not a defacto blackball, as Wetmore is typically interested with former athletes only if they are knocking boots with him... everyone knows it
