$ talks for Rupp...take the payday!
I'm not a fan of either athlete; however, I am a proud supporter of U.S distance running. I hope Rupp
and Sara Hall both runs well and have memorable performance like a personal best and an American Record.
Agree, as long as she gets great weather. Not a good heat runner.

Based on Hall's 10000m run, she is nowhere near 2:20 shape. Her pace was about 5:10 per mile compared to 5:20 needed for a 2:20. The gap between the paces needs to be closer to 25 seconds and even in good conditions, I don't believe she would have approached that.
You know very little about elite running. Please stay on the sidelines.

I would like to see Galen go to Berlin and take a real shot at the AR, but obviously it's not important to him. The man has 4 kids - gotta pay the bills!!

You believe that you don't need to be capable of running a fast 10000 to run a fast marathon?

It's kind of depressing we don't have any up and coming marathon talent--REAL TALENT--from the men or women.
Has there ever been as many Americans under the age of 25 (at one time) that have run sub-28:00 for the 10,000.?
I would call that up and coming talent for the Marathon.
Rupp drops from Olympic Marathon at Mile 16 due to some random medical issue (asthma, foot, pick one) and to not "aggravate it further".
Will re-appear on start line for Chicago to collect that appearance fee and finish top 3.
Whats the % chance this happens? I'm leaning towards probably 70%.
Rupp going to his sponsors race isn't super surprising. Can drop if he's not feeling it or chase a fast time after a more tactical Olympic marathon if he's feeling good. He doesn't have a ton of good years left. He might only be as fit as he is a handful of times over the next few years. Take a crack at it while you can without a ton of pressure.
Hall will just miss going under 2:20.
And likely the watered down field will be for Rupp to win again.

So what was the time of Kastor's 10000m on the track the same year she ran her 2:19, eh?

If there are pacers, then Galen can go for the AR at Chicago, which is where it was set in the first place! It's only about a 20 second PR needed for Galen to get it (sorry, 2:04:58 doesn't count).
Also, I know for a fact that Yuki did sub 2:10 on back to back weekends, so the thought that Galen couldn't run two good marathons with a period of more than 2 months between is just hogwash.
Chicago is smart to get a 3-time Olympic medalist (2 time marathon medalist) by that time in the race.
It would be SAD and PATHETIC if Hall can't break the record. She is wearing shoes that make her 3-5 minutes faster for the marathon.
She had a 30:50 PR a couple years before she ran 2:19. 30 seconds faster than Hall, without supershoes.
Rupp has never been one to run marathons close together. That must have a Salazar thing. Rupp knows his clock is going to start running slower -- Mo Farah showed him what's coming. Now is the time to "get 'er done" and do more races.

Kastor was also 5 years younger. Is the Marathon Project a good comp for Chicago?
what about that tierney wolfgram?? I mean she might burn out, but like... that's pretty impressive and suggests she is a true up and coming long distance star.

what was hasay's best 10K? not very quick, relative to her marathon performances. Speaking of, if she doesn't show up and try to pull a solinsky on Hall at chicago, I'll be truly sad. Zero excuse for not swinging for the fences and trying to get the AR herself at chicago.
I would like Rupp to run 2:04. 57 or faster, So I can stop having to explain why 2:05.38 is the American Record and not Ryan Hall's 2:04.58
