I think Molly Huddle's American Record is living on borrowed time. Possibly only 43 days left.

I'm surprised that there have been elites who were (or are or choose to be) relatively oblivious to heat acclimatization, like Shalane Flanagan in the 2016 Marathon trials in LA where temps only got up to the low 70s. Benji Durden set the standard for (Rocky like) heat training. Shalane ended up using environmental chambers (set to upper 80s with 75% humidity) with treadmills. It's not surprising that she'd have that breakthrough win at NYC the next year. Congrats to Sisson on smart training!

I guarantee you there will be carnage in Tokyo with the East Africans overconfident on fitness relative to the heat and humidity. Emily will pick up the pieces and medal.
You heard here first: Emily Sisson will medal in Tokyo. That master class she showed today tells me she is highly adapted to high performance in hot conditions.

This has to be the performance of the trials right?
Have you forgotten about Ryan Crouser's world record in the shot put?
And coming up we still have Athing Mu in the 800 and Sydney Mclaughlin in the 400 hurdles.
But Emily will definitely be in the top 5.

Emily is the only one to PR, most ran a 1 minute slower than their PRs.
She didn't PR. Her pb is 30:49.57.

Most badass race I've ever seen. Led 20+ laps in 85 degree heat and DROPPED everyone. Insane.
Why does it say Rojo started this thread when he’s not the OP?
Incredible performance.
Rojo, just wondering if you asked Sisson about how much she thinks her shoes helped her performance?

Fantastic race! She must be thrilled to become an Olympian, to travel all the way to Tokyo, and to be lapped 2-3 times in her race!
I disagree. I just wish she was in the marathon. She might medal.
I can't see her medalling in the 10,000 but I can see her not getting lapped. She's got to be in like 30 flat shape. I'd like to see her take a crack at the AR.

No, maestra.

Is the reality that Sisson has run faster than you ever have bothering you?
anytime I have seen Sisson take the lead like that, she is serious and confident about her fitness.
People predictably going to doping on a time 2 mins off the WR…please. Did they not see Koko’s great 10k in maybe even worse humidity/heat in Austin? Some athletes can push through it and Sisson is extremely strong. This was a great performance and bodes well for Tokyo. Obiri can be erratic at 10K but Hassan/Gidey are extremely tough. Sisson is in the running for bronze. Personally think Schweizer should scratch 10K and go all-in on the 5.
+1
Maybe for a medal in Tokyo but not this.

Whatever her prospects are for Tokyo, that was one of the most inspiring performances I have seen in a while. She just broke the field and then shrugged her shoulders like no big deal while the rest were all collapsing all over the track. Sisson looked today like she could have gone a minute faster if needed. Hard to imagine anybody beating her today, even Hassan.
Classic “boil the frog” tactic (with the heat, an even more apt description). Similar to what Pre did in the 5000m in 1972 Olympic Trials - just keep increasing the pace each lap until no one is left.

Amazing race. Did all the work. Dropped everyone.
Also is a Clean Sport Co letter signer.
Congratulations Emily! So good to see one the dopped BTC females not make this team.
It is
Another amazing performance by a runner trying to to stay relaxed but running on adrenaline. She definitely secured her Olympic berth this time. In her interview she said she trained for this heat and wasn't deterred by the temperature during race. But Monson didn't look well at all at the finish. Going to the Olympics it's only going to get worse. Unless she decides not to go to the well during the Olympics.
Outstanding run by Sisson. But I've noticed in college and the pros. When the women are getting lapped they won't give lane courtesy. They make the leaders go around them. I have seen men give lane courtesy. Why not the women?
She just kept winding up the dial.
