Hi guys, could somebody help me analyze the training prescribed by belgian coach Tim Moriau with his athletes. He seems to have a great success with a somewhat different approach (Dieter Kirsten 2h10'22 on his first marathon, Robin Hendrix 13'19 on road behind Chelimo and belgian record, Isaac Kimeli 13'13...).
Here is what I can summarize : moderate mileage (even for marathon), 2 light workouts/week around aerobic threshold pace (from 4x2000 1' rest to 3x5000 @M pace+10-15"), rest of the week filled with short recovery runs (low end of Daniels E pace) and endurance runs (high end of E pace) capped at 1h max, work maintenance on anaerobic capacity and top speed with some fast 200 and sprints (ex: 6x1200 2' rest with 200 @max and 1000 @ M pace+30-40"), only medium long runs (ex: 28k progressive toward M pace for marathoners or 28k with 20k @ M pace +10-15"). Harder workouts with race pace are introduced during final 3-4 weeks before the goal and are pretty moderate.
He used to work quite a lot with lactate data to prescribe training paces and identify weakness/power of aerobic/anaerobic capacity.
