For example 6 X 5 min (1min recovery) or 3 X 10 min (2 min recovery)?
Which is better for marathon training?

Marathon special
Long lt intervals
3 x 2 miles
4 mile tempo
The idea is to keep blood lactate levels high so short rest
Check jd running formula he talks about that
These lt workouts have a high suck factor
Assuming the same overall volume...
Long = more stress on your body, more stimulus and longer time to recover
Short = less stress on your body, less stimulus and shorter time to recover
I don't think there is a single correct answer to this but for marathon training specifically I would guess the longer the better.
If you are talking about more volume but shorter reps then its a more difficult answer I suspect and is very specific to what two workouts you are comparing, where you are in your training, what kind of runner you are etc.
I do 3 week cycles of 1M repeats, 2M repeats, and 3M repeats. The 3M ones are a really good indicator of my fitness for longer races. The shorter ones kinda prep me for the longer ones, and it's fun to switch it up. My general advice: do all of the above.
