And also teaching at a suburban district with $ (rural districts and city schools have no resources and worse kids).

I was really put off by her comments about winning the Olympic marathon, but, you know, her most recent videos (the 2 from the trials) are actually kind of endearing. She's realistic, but also humble, but also you can tell she just loves to race, which I can relate to on my own little level. And she did finish 9th, which exceeded my expectations of her, so kudos to her. I'd like to see her run the 10km (like she says...."It's the Trials!"), and maybe I'd root for her a bit more.
My opinion. Gwen should try the steeplechase

She needs to bump herself back up to longer distances. Every year there will be faster talent and she's going to be in her upper 30's which really isn't conducive for short distances. I am glad that she seems more humble now, when she first came into the sport she had no idea how difficult it would be.
Why would she DNF less than 3 laps from the end of the 10000?
To prevent a double lappage.

I think posting the time she was about to run would be potentially embarrassing to her. And, as a prior poster stated, she was about to be lapped twice.

ouch. I didn't realize she was so far behind.
At least she's not hurt.
Thanks.

ignores her coaches advise and races, only to drop at 8.8k.
Seriously, where does she go from here? USATF HM Champs?
She needs to try roads again, she’s too old to beat young talent on the track
I was glad to see her though. My impression was partly they didn't want her running because it was in Heat B. But once they made it all one heat, why not give it a shot just for the experience.
She ran 88-90s her last 4 laps though, so she died out there. I think she could still do the marathon as she works her way back from injury but with this new jump in times (like 4-5 mins where even 2:22 is not that fast) her body type probably precludes her from being world class.
