for the WR, 800, the splits you might use are not the ones that apply to mortals.
the 3rd fast 200m, is that the key?
i mean, murphy was full of running at the end.
so we see he could do 142 mid off these kind of splits
as with the 400m, it is the last 150 m is where you can get the record simply by bringing it in without dramatic slowing.
seems to me that 3rd 200m is the key.
and then hang in there with a 26 200m
only a few guys on the planet can probably apply for this kind of plan.
thinking about it.
142 mid is probably good for gold.
basically you just need to bring it on the day.
murphy has a shot.

Did Brazier run the slowest positive split in US history? Almost a full 7 seconds slower. 1:54 pace over the last lap, probably over 2:00 for the last 100 meters. .
Oh that’s too good haha. Fantastic response!!
+1

I guess if you don't believe Gray's accounting of his own splits, the fastest verified negative-split 800 is Rudisha 1:42.84, with a verified first-lap time of 51.59 making the last lap a ~51.24 (see "intermediate" split):

Yep, I watched the race and recorded it at the time and had Rudisha's splits as 51.6 and 51.2 (24.9 last 200m)
Other fast negative splits mentioned in the posts above are:
Kipketer in Monaco '97 - 52.0/50.7 (last 200m in 24.7!) in a 1:42.77
Tuka in Monaco '15 - 51.3/51.2 (last 200m in 25.3) in a 1:42.51 (though never got anywhere near this, in his breakout year with massive improvement, again!)
Cram in Edinburgh '86 - 51.7/51.5 (last 200m in 25.0) in a 1:43.22
Fastest 3rd 200m in a fast 800m that I know of was Coe's 24.8 split in his 1:42.33 WR/
Splits given at time were - 50.6, 1:15.4, though analysis of video footage shows a 0.2 residual error at the end of the race, where Coe crosses the line at 1:42.1. So, using the same 0.2 error as he crosses line in 50.6 at 400m, then his actual 400m split could have been 50.8, meaning his 200m from 400 to 600m may have been as fast as 24.6. Nonetheless, 24.8 is still impressive in such a fast time.
What an athlete Kipketer was. The video of him doing a negative split 50s last lap for a 142 finish is insane. Look at the gap!! He seems to be going downhill on the final stretch. Absolutely unbeatable. Rudisha is the greatest ever on this event, but Kipketer the best.
