Sounds like a guy that went to find that 5th gear and was truly surprised it wasn’t there. Obviously he has had some sort of injury, but no way to tell how bad it was based on his answers.

I just can’t believe that he’s no injured. There’s no way a healthy brazier can’t cover a move by Jewett
It seems like he maybe is based on the interview

PS. He said he's probably not going to do the 1500. I hope he changes his mind.
This is a common error. People think that when they go higher, it would be easier.
The fact is that when elite runners drop their performances, they drop it in all distances.
I have seen that happening to a lot of runners 1500m/5000m.
Now Donovan should work his way to find what is causing his temporary drop of performances.

Also you say you don’t know if you’ve ever not seen a reigning world champion make it. Isn’t it crazy that Braizer and Tim both don’t make it back this year.
Add to that the fact that Muktar Edris failed to qualify for the 5000m. The situation is definitely different as both Cheruiyot and Brazier had dominated their events over the last few years. Nevertheless, it is quite shocking to see defending World Champs in the 800m, 1500m, and 5000m all fail to qualify for Tokyo.

I think he agrees with you, which is why he said the goal will be to get 100% healthy.
He’s hurt. He’s not fit because he’s been hurt. THAT is why he’s not running the 1500
The problem is that Brazier went into the race thinking he had to win, not that he just had to make the team. When Jewitt made that second big surge with 300 to go I think Brazier got sucked into chasing to early instead of saving his powder with 250 to go. Instead all Brazier did was drag Hoppel, Harris and Murphy down the back stretch. If Brazier had kept his powder dry and just tried to qualify he may, just may have been a bigger problem for Hoppel and Harris. I give Jewitt credit because when Jim Ryun made that same move with 300 to go in 1972 it cost him a spot on the team. Jewitt did a fantastic job and Murphy had the best race of his life.

There is at least a 20% probability U.S. Olympic Trials 1500m final will pass 800m and 1200m in 2:03+ and 3:01+. If so, Brazier would be in the ball game. Most likely less than 5% probability 1200m will be passed in 2:51 or faster. Is Brazier afraid of being embarrassed in a fast race? Come on D. Brazier, race 1500m! Dave Wottle showed up in Munich, 1972 believing he was a 1500m man. Coe showed up, 1980 Olympics believing he would win 800m gold for sure. Ovett showed up, 1980 Olympics believing 1500m gold was his. Brazier, race 1500m and let's see what happens.
He’s hurt. He’s not fit because he’s been hurt. THAT is why he’s not running the 1500
What kind of hurt? Is Brazier physically capable of racing sub-40 300m after passing 1200m in 2:59 to 3:02? If you are implying Brazier is emotionally hurt, have you followed women U.S. swimming Olympic Trials? Simone Manuel took off three weeks from swimming for one reason or another this past April. Taking off three weeks so close to Olympic Trials diminished Manuel's cardio fitness. Simone Manuel, 100m freestyle world record holder did not even make U.S. Olympic Trials 100m freestyle final. Manuel had the gusto to make U.S. Olympic team, 50 metre freestyle. Now tell me, what kind of hurt is Brazier? If Brazier is emotionally hurt, he needs to see a sport psychologist ASAP.
I get the vibe there are some mental problems going on. I have had issues with extreme clinically diagnosed anxiety, and in the season it was the worst I was running 10+ seconds slower than my pr in the 800 and tightening up like Brazier did at the end there. Not saying that's whats going on, but it's my theory. I really feel for the guy.
I noticed that also. It's like this didn't catch him by surprise.
Donavan will be back...he is only 24
Being a good loser is still a loser. When you celebrate someone who came last there is something missing in your definition of "total class".

Pull a Keni Harrison and go for the world record.
Yeah he could definitely do that. Just needs to get his hack squat higher.
Kudos to Brazier for talking to the press but in track we are generally very gentle with our athletes and their feelings. In most professional sports players are fined for refusing to talk to the media after losing a competition.
The 76ers were booed off the court yesterday by their home crowd and Ben Simmons had to come out and talk when people were accusing him of losing the series.
Tennis players are fined up to $20k for failing to meet a post match press conference obligation. Should there be a penalty for star track athletes?
I remember when Charlie Grice finished 4th at the UK trials after running 3:30 in Monaco, everybody here was saying he choked or that his 3:30 was a fluke. Now Tim finishes 4th and Donovan last and they just had bad days.

Wrong as always. You do not dissapoint!
Both Tim and Donovan's reactions are surprising. It's not just that both missed out on their Olympic dreams after being overwhelming favourites. If it wasn't for a virus escaping from a Chinese lab, both would be Olympic champions now sitting on million dollar contracts. I'd be pi$$ed about that. Especially as both events are moving on fast with new young talents, and it's unlikely either will be favorites in 2024.
Call me crazy but I dont think Donavan wanted to go to Tokyo. I have a feeling he did this on purpose. Again call me crazy if you want to

A losser speaks. Such clas.
It's how he handled his loss resulting in not even making the olympic team, while being the world champion and main contender to olympic gold.
It's a situation you have never been in and wouldn't even remotly understand what a person in his position goes through at that moment.
It is somewhat scary to me realising that people like armstronglivs make up a big part of worlds population.

Well NOW he’s probably emotionally hurt, but he’s clearly physically hurt. He doesn’t want to just say ‘I’m injured’ and sound like he’s making excuses. He’s said on a few different occasions that he’s been dealing with stuff, been beat up, etc. has looked bad all year. Form looks off. And he mentioned how he shouldn’t be in this position because he has the best strength coach and massage therapist etc. No, I don’t know the exact injury. But it sounds an awful lot like he’s hurt. We know brazier at 80% fitness makes this team. He’s not there. Hopefully he gets healthy quick now though that he doesn’t have to try to train through for the olympics.
