Back in '72 every one was counting out another great Ohio 800m runner Dave Wottle. Ohioan Murphy is now primed for gold.

"What a lucky man he was."
People counted him out because he was racing like sh!t the past year and a half. He had one decent 800 in 1:45 in May, then ran 1:47, 3:38 and 3:39. He looked to be a shell of himself. Glad he was able to pull it off today.

Definitely a medal, I think he's capable of gold, probable a silver. The only mystery is Nijel Amos. No 800s this season, ran 3:44 1500 but a 45.69 400m. That's fast. So time will tell.
The Kenyans are tough. Korir and Saruni are massive talents. I’d think if he executes like today, you’d worry about them, Amos and perhaps Arop who is another big talent.
They ran 1:45 and 1:46 in the final last week at the Kenyan trials. They're great, but as of right now I would not be worried about them if I were Murphy.
1:43.1 could be the fastest 800M ever run in 100 degree weather.

Agree. Criticism is not hate.
