Hi all,
I am a 24-year-old female distance runner preparing for a 2021 fall marathon. I am registered for a marathon in mid-October. This will be my first marathon. I never ran collegiately, but I have been averaging 60-80 mpw for the last 1.5 years and maybe averaged 50 mpw before that with a few summers around 75 mpw. For the last few months, I have been running around 70 mpw in singles all anywhere from 6:25 to 6:45 pace. Typically, the last portion of my runs will be in the 6:10s or 6:20s. These paces are not super easy, but I do not feel like I am working hard. I am definitely more endurance-based. Last Friday, I completed a long run of 21 miles at 6:36 pace at the end of a 90-mile week, and it did not feel too challenging.
Therefore, I was wondering if I have a shot at running a 2:45 marathon on a moderately hilly course. Would this be possible if averaged 80-100 mpw for the next three months? Also, I’m 5’6 and 119 pounds and plan on losing 5-6 pounds before race day. I have never had a coach and know little about running overall, so I am looking for some advice. I know for certain that I could have kept 6:36 pace up for another 5 miles, but I also am aware that there is a huge difference between a 2:53 marathon and a 2:45 marathon.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
