Seems like a lot of marathoners train on dirt roads or trails quite a bit. In the area I live in any dirt roads or trails are fairly steep, not much flat stuff. It would be hard to do structured training because the terrain dictates how hard you are working. Would be hard to do temp runs ect. I feel I need to do a lot of training on the road just so I can control my workout better. Should I be running more on dirt more even though I wouldn't be able to have as structured workouts as I do on paved roads? I was watching an interview with Ryan Hall and he said he trained on the dirt quite a bit because it is so much easier on the body. At my age I need to be easy on my body, I am 54.
