I’ll be a freshman in college in the fall. However, my times weren’t fast enough to be selected to their roster for my freshman year (4:39 mile, 16:31 5k). I emailed the coach and he said that if I could get into the 4:25/15:45 range he might have a spot open for me in my sophomore year.
Therefore this xc season since I am not on a team, I think road racing (5k-10k) would be one of my only options (unless I was able to find some unattached xc races). If I’m trying to somewhat mimic the college xc season (racing september, october, and peaking in november) how many road races should I do in my “season”? I was thinking of doing two 10k road races and four 5k road races in total, but is that too much wear and tear on the legs? Would it be a better idea to do a few time trials on xc courses instead of racing so much on the roads?
(Once again this is all assuming I cannot find any unattached xc races. If I can find some I can do then problem solved.)
