should i run 5 miles, rest for 5-10 minutes, and then run another 5 miles. Or should i run 7-8 miles continuously?

im sorry what?
I would go for 8 miles continuous. I sometimes do that and drop down to tempo pace for 10-15 minutes.
The 5 and 5 is better base building because it’s basically a 10 miler as the 10 minute break will have a negligible effect on a run of that length
5 and 5 with 0 minutes recovery.
seems to be a tie so far and malmo and tctctc think theyre funny. any other serious responses?
Doesn't matter. Pick one and run.
Subjectively, I’d go with the 8-miler just because I think stopping during a run is utter BS and will not serve you well at all if you do it more than once a month. That’s just my opinion, though, and isn’t based on science.
The best one is the run you did
Sounds silly but it’s true, instead of debating just get out there, it’ll add up
the point of base building is more volume. i would say the 5 + 5 w/ rest. this reminds me of the people crying when cooper and cole would stop for water breaks on long runs last summer. they seem to be running pretty well right now tho...strange. maybe more people should be taking breaks or running a slower pace because, but their egos wont let them.

if i run 6 days a week, the 8 milers would add up to 48 miles. The 10 milers would add up to 60 miles. Do you think it doesn't matter?
5 minutes is basically a pee-and-water break which is perfectly appropriate for a 10 mile run in the summer. Most of my longer runs (for me that's 8+ miles) will have around a break that long, it definitely does not degrade from the run in a tangible way. Although if you feel you HAVE to take a 5 minute break just to get through the run, then it either means you are running too fast or you are not fit enough yet to be running 10 miles. Although, if your break is only 5 minutes then that's probably not the case.
Short answer: 10 mile run with a short break is much better than 7-8, given that you are able to handle that sort of mileage.

The first question was about one single run, now you are talking about a whole week.
Two different things.
I think you need a bread and butter run 3 times a week, one longer run and one faster one. And at least one rest day. Whatever that ads up to, that;s your weekly mileage.
And as somebody mentioned already, it's the runs you do which count not the once you talk about.

thank you. should my bread and butter be 10 miles with a 5-10 minute break or a 7-8 mile continuous run?

If you can run eight miles continuously is it really that much more of a reach to run two more continuously and get to ten? Or if you need a 5-10 minute break why not take it after you've run continuously for seven or eight miles?

To keep my hr low I can do…
5, rest, 5 at 7:50-8 min pace
7 at 8:15-8:25 pace
10 at 8:30-9 pace
If I stopped after 7 the last few would prolly be 9+ pace to get to 10
New suggestion:
6-7 continuous in the morning, 3 super easy before you go to bed. Just add it to your shower/brush your teeth routine

Well there’s your problem - you’re worrying about pace. Base runs should be be an even effort throughout. If you’re dropping off that much at the end, then slow it down a little in the beginning.
