Following up my previous posts, I had to double check this, but the Cooper Test doesn't measure MHR. It measures VO2Max.
In looking at your Cooper test and your XC time trial, it appears that both tests ramped up your heart rate too fast to elicit MHR.
Here's what I *think* happened in both efforts. You went out at an anaerobic pace, as evidenced by the very high HR in the first three minutes of the Cooper test and the first minute of the XC run. I think if you went out at warm up pace for 10 minutes, switched immediately to tempo pace for 10 minutes, switched to 5k pace for 5 minutes, and then a kick-finish pace for 90 seconds, you would come closer to MHR.
I know that if I did a warmup and was sweating at the line, I could routinely hit MHR at the end of a 300-400m kick at the end of a 5k.
Based on your tests, I'd guess your MHR is 180 or so.
Thanks, but I arrived at an assumed HRmax of 169bpm from performing multiple 'all-out' sessions over the past year (including races). For example, here is the HR trace of a 5x1000m session on May 23 in which I tried (and struggled) to hit the Jack Daniels Calculator recommended paces for 'Intervals', based off the VDOT from the 12-min Cooper Test. (In the first rep, I actually went a little faster than recommended pace.) This session was VERY HARD (19-20) on the Borg RPE scale.
Unless one actually looks at their HR data from true VO2max sessions, they probably won't appreciate what is going on here.

Being a little picky here but the Cooper Test does not "measure" Vo2max. It will give you an estimate based on a formula. To measure VO2max you need a metabolic cart (or a portable one).

Maximum Cardiac Output is Maximum Cardiac Output.
Since Cardiac Output = Heart rate x Stroke volume, bothmax HR and max SV are variables.
And since SV is dependent on Blood Volume, which is also variable in hot conditions then it follows that max HR is variable too.

In performance physiology the HFmax is considered as not trainable. So max HF is not a variable measured a few weeks/days later.
Testing correctly to find the correct Hf max is an art ...
