After my track season finished up last week, I decided to go to the podiatrist to see what was up with my lingering pain in my left foot. Turns out there’s a small crack in my sesamoid bone. Six weeks is supposed to be the recovery time for the injury. So until I’m able to run again, I thought about getting a YMCA membership to swim laps.
What do you’ll recommend I do for my swimming workouts, swim technique, swimming gear, etc...? I am a complete newbie when it comes to swimming for cross training, although I did take swim lessons/know how to swim decently.
Also, I am going to be a freshman in college next semester and I am trying to bring down my pr’s to 4:25 for the mile and 15:45 for the 5k to hopefully earn a spot on my colleges xc team sophomore year (my current pr’s are 4:39/16:31). I usually do about 45 miles a week and the highest I’ve gotten up to has been 55 miles a week. My peak races next “season” will be mid-November for xc and early June for track (to try and mimic the college season schedules as best as I can).
Any tips on cross training via swimming would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
