Congress needs to act to save the NCAA. Student-Athletes should not be paid any money since they get a FREE education. Discuss.

Idk what you’re on about, but not every college kid gets to go to school for free. Idk that colleges should be paying athletes per say but NCAA should definitely be allowing athletes to make money off of their name, likeness and/or sport.

The athletes that would be getting paid (football/basketball) all go to school for free. Those sports only offer full scholarships. So every football and basketball player that is on a scholarship is on a full scholarship.

Keep swimming upstream. Defending a poorly run organization like the NCAA is also not going to come off well.
NIL rights would not be the colleges paying the athletes.
Yes they get a lot of free stuff in exchange for 40 hours a week of work (if not more) in many sports. However, many are not getting their full market value and many of those athletes are not the star football and basketball players. Track athletes could benefit from NIL rights and that would be good for the sport.
I still have no idea why sports are connected to a college education. And I say this as a fan of NCAA T&F, but I'd just be fine with good athletes joining clubs and studying separately.

Only a small fraction of athletes have any notable "market value". Indeed most athletes (on full scholarship) are "overpaid".
-Free Education (Tuition) and Board ($30-$80K)
-Free advanced athletic training facility access off limits to normal students
-Free sports med/training services
-Free travel, lodging, meals
-Free entry to competitions (yeah, most people pay to race remember?)
-Free clothing and gear
-The privilege of competing in intercollegiate athletics, something untold students would do for free (Indeed many do).
End covid restrictions. Problem solved.
The NCAA will survive if they lay off older employees and those with high salaries and replace them with interns and recent university Liberal Arts grads. That's why my school has done. USATF Indianapolis HQ did the same a few years ago as well.
The NCAA is a bloated, corrupt organization that primarily is run for the benefit of its staff.

The idea of the NCAA showcasing student athletes competing as amateurs while studying full time, and competing part time as a part of a well rounded education sounds great. It was probably noble and honorable and wonderful when it existed.
But it hasn't existed in a long time.
The NCAA is a trillion dollar racket and should be dismantled.
