Do all NCAA Schools provide shoes?

I'm curious. I ran Div 1 in the 80's. Nobody on our team got shoes. Because of the shoe debate I now hear about what shoes athletes were supplied with. Do schools just have so much money or are tied up with shoe companies that all schools provide all training and racing shoes. Like I said we were Div 1. We got one pair of really cheap puma rejects (I think they were called Rainer..the company not the actual shoes). Nobody wore them. A bunch of us were sponsored by shoe companies so it wasn't like we didn't get free shoes. But I'm just curious if this is just standard now that schools provide all the shoes you need.

I’m pretty sure all Nike/Adidas D1s do, not sure for everything else tho. I go to a mid-major and I’ll be getting spikes, flats, shoes, and some workout clothes when I go down in a few weeks.

idek how other d1 schools work but at ours we are supplied with shoes yes. there is some sort of weird politics happening between the people that work in the equipment room and the athletes however.

only the top athletes will be prioritized with getting dragonflies, everyone else gets old model or nothing at all for spikes. as for trainers most people don’t have an issue getting the trainers they need when they need them.

on a side note, this semester there’s has been an unusual lack of supply of trainers even for top athletes. our equipment guy keeps saying the warehouse is out of stock or something weird.

any other schools sponsored by nike have a similar issue?

Yes most d1 give shoes to their athletes, usually through their sponsorship agreement. Athletes usually have to wear the shoe of the school sponsor. They can usually buy off brands like on, hoka, ASICS if they won’t those but ua/Nike/adidas schools won’t let you wear the other major brands, except this year where everyone said f it I’m wearing nikes, kids at non Nike schools likely had to buy them on their own.

Not at my daughter's D1 NY state school. Zilch. I get to pay for trainers, spikes, etc. They get a couple of pieces of apparel but we buy the rest. Not that big of a deal. We get a bargain for the price of a great school, but pay for shoes.

I totally understand the lack of availability. That's not your school's problem that's every vendor trying to supply shoes. Gary Taylor (the old Arkansas runner who held the world best 1500 for 16 year olds) mention the lack of being able to get shoes etc as one of the reasons he's closing his running store in Little Rock this week.

So do you know if Nike etc just provide shoes free to the schools or do they just get them heavily discounted. I assume the football and basketball teams everything is free.

Hope you all know because of the pandemic there's problems with the supply chain of getting things this year.
