Hats off to Dan O’Brien, former decathlon world record holder, for his insightful. articulate distance running commentary.

I think he is smart enough to know what he doesn't know, which helps a lot as well.
Agreed well done.
You are only saying this because the bar is so low. Especially recently with that godawful woman talking about repeat 600s.
It boggles the mind or in the US people like the D.Stones who of course was a fantastic athlete in the high jump was chosen to comment on distance races which makes no sense because he was never a distance runner.

It is clear that he has done his homework and doesnt overstep.
They shut the woman off most of last night. Is she back tonight?

Sadly I think they think she is their expert on the Women's races
Jill > everyone
The "technical analysis" of the sprints was some of the worst I've ever heard. Not sure who it was (not Dan).
Yeah it's pretty bad. Another example just now was her view about keeping the head down for Sturgis is not correct and I'm pretty sure Duane Ross does not coach that. The whole body is to rise up as one not running for a distance with the head down (and separate of the torso alignment). She is so intent on selling us all on knee lift when most (should) know the knee lift is bi-product/symptom of correct posture and vertical force application. Most coaches I know don't use knee lift as a cue.
Was actually going to start a thread about the same thing this morning.
I was stunned at how insightful Dan OBrien was during distance races - I enjoyed hearing his commentary.
His commentary during the steeplechase was the best of all - he made observations I’ve never heard by a tv commentator before.
I enjoy Dan O'Brien analysis

D. Stones is excellent. He competed in 1971 AAU as a HS senior. He has been around T&F for at least that long. He has an open mind. He knows distance RACING as well as anyone; he has been around it long enough.
Interesting you will attack a clean white man, but defend a dirty Muslim doper because he grew up poor.
Now go home and get your shinebox; come back and clean my shoes (non-cheater shoes BTW).
I met dan briefly many years ago. I was a fairly good HS runner and got invited to a meet where I was blessed to compete between events where pros ran. Dan was incredibly, friendly and funny. I was so starstruck. I'll always have Dan's back. Hell, even OJ simpson did great commentary.
What event is he announcing? I often turn off the sound...

I can’t believe they let Marv Albert be basketball commentator without having played in the NBA or how they let Howard Costell comment on any sports.
Wrote about this before . So improved !!!
