In Adidas Avanti spikes. It’s a shame you weren’t allowed to wear the cheater shoes like the rest of the field and thus were stripped of a national title.

He was stripped of a national title because he went too early.

Not 100% sure but I think the avanti are adidas’ answer to Nike’s super shoes. If you look them up they have a pebax plate and foam which is similar type of foam nike is using. Any here adidas guys confirm this? Or, they could be regular old spikes in which case he definitely deserved the title.
He could have worn dragonflies (like his teammate Nico Young) or the brand new adidas « super spike » that Nur wore … he chose to wear those old spikes

That's what I think as well - if he had waited until 100-120 to go he might have had a better shot.

Grijalva doesn’t need good luck at the Olympic Trials; he’s the only Guatemalan with the Olympic standard.
You obviously don’t know how this works, it was his choice to run in those, other nau runners have worn dragonfly’s this year, it’s personal preference
He ran in the older model of avantis, and as someone pointed out, NAU had access to the newer versions and he seems to have chosen not to wear them.

Not quite true:
Below, it states that a Guatemalan race walker has also qualified for the Olympic 20 km walk. His name is Oswaldo Calel, and he recently walked 1:hr20 minutes in La Coruna Spain.
It also states that he will have to wait until the end of June for confirmation of a selection for Olympic team. His hometown in Guatemala is Alta Verapaz.
