Once again, show me a race where Cheruiyot has run tactically. He knows he can win by front running so he does it every single time. Yes, in the normal run if things you have a good chance if a tactical race in a global final, but this is different. The best athlete in the event is a front runner who can run 3:28 gun to tape. He has no incentive to make it tactical. And where you get a front runner, the field follows, as in the 2012 800m.
Hocker's time as a sit and kick artist will come, but it's not this year, and won't be until Cheruiyot loses form or confidence. Maybe 2024
Don't disagree but the Olympic games does funny things to people. I mean did you ever think you would see winning time of 3.50.00? I didn't - but it happened. Now do I expect that Timmy C messes around in the final (I am assuming he will make it) and leaves it to chance? No I don't - but there is always a chance.
Like I said last post, I'm kind of bummed that Hocker has done so much this season at such an elite level because he is only 20 and the toughness both physically and mentally to go rounds - even at the trials, let alone the Olympic Games comes with age. Because of this I would be surprised if he makes the team which sucks because if he did and God forbid made the final and it wasn't a TC barnburner then anything could happen.
