I think Hocker can win a gold medal. That was the most insane close I’ve ever seen.

Should’ve stayed in his lane better but great race

I’m admittedly a Nuguse fan, but I can’t argue if it’s a clean finish. Hocker cutting in on Nuguse for 70 meters seemed like a weak move to me. And with them finishing within 3 tenths of each other, who knows what a difference that might have made. Great race by both in any case!

If I had the time I would plot the splits vs Moscow 2013. Pretty sure they both would’ve medaled
Anyone else remember when people were saying Hocker's kick wasn't as good as Ches?
What fools.

At five days past 20 he has plenty of years to prettify his form for ya.

A lot more egregious than the kid from New Jersey that was DQed.

So a guy with a 3:35 pr is gonna win a gold medal against guys that have run 3:27/28.
There’s a reason why these guys are in the NCAA and not pro world class.
Lets see him first make the Olympic, then an Olympic final, then go from there.
Pretty good
Great finish by Hocker.
So tired of the use of the term MF in threads. Anyone who uses it demonstrates their inability to use the English language properly without profanity. This is a clear demarcation of the complete decline of Western Civilization...especially that of the U.S. I hate American culture.
Everyone who really follows NCAA knew it would be Nguse-Hocker or Hocker-Nguse at the finish. When the Goose had to lead the whole race, you could see the what the f-ck look on his face. " I really don't want to try to win from the front." They both closed in 52+. Great running from both of them. 1-1 for the year and best luck to both in the trials. I think they will both grow from running with the pros. They are both running NCAA again next year. I hope one or both sneak through to the Olympics. They are better runners than 99.9 % of the folks who will armchair the race on Letsgo. As a former ND cross country captain - and yes they are both better than my 14.20 5k - GO IRISH!

When sprinting, the arms *should* open and close at the elbow: The weight of the forearm opens the relaxed elbow as the arm moves back, and closes it as the arm moves forward. (Actually there should be some "play" in the elbow at *every* speed, but it's less noticeable at less than a sprinting speed.)
Nuguse, by contrast, had an almost-locked elbow as he sprinted. He was trying very, very hard!--but the elbow never opened to even 90 degrees as it moved behind his torso, much less the ~~130 degrees you'd want to see in a full sprint.
Watch Lynn Jennings win a national title:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbyyAHwhasLynn's elbows opened and closed; the other woman's arms moved as one piece from the shoulder, elbow basically locked.
Or watch Lynn outsprint the others to win her third world xc title (start at about the 9:00 mark):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN7LSr0WUFkIf the elbow is locked the arms *have to* move across the body.
Granted, Jennings's arms were more controlled than Hocker's, but he had the right idea. Nuguse did not, and was beaten by technique, not necessarily by fitness.

several months cause he's gonna do that at OTs too. cry lol.
Make no mistake: I’m happy for him. I just can’t stand the constant Hocker threads.
Maybe this video shows it even better (start around the 7:00 mark), as Jennings outkicks Tulu--a prodigious kicker! Jennings uses her arms better and just powers away:
Seriously?? This is the ultimate nit-picking. Form has its place but they are both very efficient. You run that much - you get efficient. A locked or unlocked elbow is important to a scientist but to a distance runner, it is the least of their worries.
Both Hocker and Nuguse have had long seasons. In addition, Hocker is doubling back in the 5K. To expect either of them to be in the running for an Olympic spot is asking a lot, and also because the other contenders have raced more sparingly and will taper off for the Trials. I think just making the final will be an accomplishment. Making the team would be incredible.

Disagree, actually. Using their energy in the most efficient and productive way, and winning with it, are major concerns.
At the 7:30 mark of the 1991 video, the form LJ is using is about the best I've seen.
Will Cole run the 5k really? What do yall think. This affects my 5k picks.
