I'm 37. My path has been a little less conventional, which might account for my seeing things differently. I was a decent collegiate runner, but suffered a lot of injuries after college. I've had numerous orthopedic surgeries, and quit running for good a few years back because of this. However, I took up cycling and lifting weights, and now I can regularly get new PRs. The PRs are modest, but since I relatively new at both disciplines, I think I will be able to continue to PR for years to come. It is also a fun challenge to learn and try new athletic pursuits.
I like my job and it is challenging and rewarding. My wife is just 29 is she is gorgeous. We have been together ten years and no post-nuptial shutoff yet. In fact, it keeps getting better.
We have a one-year-old who is a lot of fun and makes my life much more enjoyable. In regards to teenagers, I teach high school and for the most part enjoy that age group. They can be quite difficult, but it is an age that needs a lot of guidance and really has a desire for consistent and trustworthy role models. I find a lot of purpose in striving to be a role model for them, while teaching them how to think for themselves and preparing them for college, trade school, or the working world. I think that will help with my own kid when he is a teenager.
Financially, I know I likely won't be wealthy; however, my wife and I have lived pretty frugally since we got married and we recently paid off our house and have no debt. Hopefully we will have some financial freedom going forward.
Things can always change for the worse, but I think mindset is important, and 35-50 does not have to be terrible.
