When the current 10th graders at Newbury were 8th graders, they would have won the CA division 4 XC meet. They are incredible!
Aaron Cantu 4:27 1500
Hector Martinez 4:22 1500
Lex Young 4:45 1600
Leo Young 4:55 1600
Aaron Sahlman 4:46 1600

Not so sure. The D4 winner in '18 was Foothill Technology. Checking out what their top 5 at state ran the previous year in track, Newbury Park had all 5 incoming 9th graders faster than Foothill Technology's 3rd runner. Certainly flawed because it's based on 1600 times, but still interesting to consider. It would have been close.
The OP gave the 2019 track times for the Newbury Park boys. In 2019, the Foothill Tech top five 1600m times were: 4:22, 4:24, 4:26, 4:30, 4:35.
Yeah, my mistake. I mixed up years. Maybe for fun, we could pretend time machines were invented and they were able to run in 2018? Well, thought I was on to something. Still wild to think they could have competed in any year. What a crew!
Martinez transferred to NP from a different school before spring season 2020.
They did have a 7th grader that year who ran a 5:00 1600

I mean they had a 7th grader who ran a 5:00 1600 during spring 2019.
What type of strength training does the team do?
Not even close. They would of gotten smoked
Fun fact: Martinez DID run for a D4 school in 9th grade
Yosemite (a d4 school) also has 4 really good sophs. They are on their way to beating Newbury Park in 2024
In XC 2018?
Laguna Beach won during that season with a 16:01 average.
I don’t think the NP c/o 2023 crew would have topped that at the time.
I definitely think they would have won the girls d4 race though
I think we know the California State Meet is diluted with all the divisions. Really good top level talent from CA, but then a bunch of PE classes.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
