I was just looking at NCAA entries, regional competition and the results of pac12's, and Cal Berkley is as bad, if not worse, than theyve ever been. 2 complete years since Tony Sandoval left. Men were DFL in Pac12's, women only beat distance only teams that dont care about track. Although most event groups sent an athlete or 2 to regionals/scored somewhere at Pac12's, they were almost all athletes that were already at that level before the new coaching staff got there. Specifically distance (since that was Sandoval's group), they do have one new guy who almost scored/did make regionals, but the other guy that scored a couple points in the 800 and woman who scored/qualified in the steeple were already there or regressed from where they were 2 years ago before the new coaches got there. In xc, the men finished 7th out of 9, beat the two arizona schools that haven't cared about xc in at least a decade and it was the same story on the womens side. My point being, this board ripped on Tony Sandoval for literally decades for Cal being sooo bad every single year. Now 2 years after he is gone, I think theyre actually worse. I'd say "give them time, it has only been 2 years and 1 of those was covid," but looking at signed recruits (zero for distance from what I could find) and no one can say "help is on the way/the future is bright" (most of their scorers/regional Q's were seniors/are transferring according to social). So...anyone know what the deal is here?
