I realized that I have better example of why this is unbelievable. Our school has not had a year in the last 10 years in which at least one 8th grader did not break 5 minutes. We have less than 400 8th graders. Some years, we have a 7th grader do it. If at least 1 out of every 400 8th graders does it, certainly 1 out of 100 high schoolers can easily do it.
when you have 100 high school boys, a LARGE chunk of them are going to be focused on football, soccer, baseball, basketball, etc. Doesn't leave a lot of decently talented kids for track-in many cases..
when you have 400, there are going to be a lot of decently talented kids leftover after all those other sports are accounted for.
