At the ATL race.

What do these kids do? Are they full time runners? They travel all over to race, going to college is going to be a let down for them, if they still have enough left once they finish this HS thing?
3 of them sophomores, too.
C. Sahlman is probably a Top 5 miler this year.
Eighth grader Sadie Engelhart for 3rd in 4:44.40. Only 4 seconds off Decker's long-standing record.
I hear Newbury Park came down from a 1 month training stint in the highlands is Spain.
In as first one to say “it’s the shoes”!!
Crazy good team out there.
Makes me wonder what the average kid could run if they were part of that program.
The median 1600 time on Newbury Park is 4:27. Seems like they don't do cuts (at least in freshman year) as there are 3 runners above 5 minutes.
Now thats impressive .... BUT....

Doesn’t matter it’s ok to peak early. Personally I still think they got a lot left but nothing wrong with running 3:57 senior year and then squeezing out a 3:53 in college which will probably happen if they progress properly. Idk why we are so scared of kids doing hard work at an early age. There are teenagers on the world stage running elite times why not Americans?
It was in Nashville, not Atlanta.
Newburry are proof that great team culture and work ethic makes fast times. Natural talent is not as much as a factor as we thought. There's going to be a HS runner who breaks four every year now. The Africans don't run faster because they're better, but because they have more desire and work ethic from being in poverty. Also because they don't overthink things like almost everyone who posts here. They just run with their heart and soul and the fast times come to them.

They also have another sophomore who ran a 4:17 1600 earlier this year.

Cantu, plus they had another soph run 9:40 at the league champs. He must have improved big time because a coach picked and spun around after the race.
It’s exceedingly rare you have two sets of hyper-talented brothers on the same team with one pair being twins and the other just one year apart. Those four raise the level that everyone else on the team is floating at. Add to that the twins older brother is a National Ind Championship talent and this is peak dream-level insanely perfect scenario a coach could come up with.
Brosnan puts the work in to take advantage of the situation, but I guarantee he has no idea how lucky he is for these kids to have arrived on his doorstep.
It appears Cantu stayed home to win the CIF D1 prelims in 9:19.
Newberry Park’s 7th man, Martinez ran 9:23 last week.
So this fall: senior 8:43, 7 juniors 8:43 to 9:40. A 4:27 frosh and who know who will improve to help out.
I can’t wait till the fall.

Said it before and will say it again, the Young brothers will surely be the best siblings to ever run in hs in the USA. It seems reasonable to expect that Leo or Lex may end up faster then Nico. We might have 3 sibs with 8:40 prs in the 3200. That’s crazy.

Newbury Park won NXN and did not have the twins scoring then or both brothers running. Newbury Park is doing things right and it's scary what this team has become and will continue to be. The Newbury Park girls are running fast too. In Tennessee they went 4:43 and 4:55 in the girls miles races.
Ventura is a manageable commute to Newbury Park. It would be interesting to see what Brosnan could do with the current incoming 4:44 freshman Sadie Englehardt.
Great talent plus great coaching... I listened to Sean Brosnan do a podcast with letsrun last year and I was 54 years old at the time and he so motivated me just listening to him. I felt like running out the door and busting a mile time trial after hearing him talk about his kids. He is no great coach by accident. He cares for his kids and he works very hard to help make these kids successful
