And in the race in which he didn’t win a state title, he ran 1:47.9. LOL

You. You are the only one who cares. He does not need to prove anything in the state meet. Running against high schoolers for him is like a pro athlete rolling up to a high school meet.
Stop being an a$$hole. I'm sure there are many people who came to the meet and are watching it live just to see him. It's not about proving something. It's about putting on a great performance for the audience and running fans. Running a great time and making the Olympics aren't mutually exclusive goals.
Running quick and making the Olympics overlap, you can only run so fast so many time and can only hold your peak for so long if you peak for this state meet and go balls to the walls for some fast times thats time you add to races later in the season
Wonder why the field played right into his hand in the 800 . I mean usually the field is out in 55?!
Another thing Skyline HS was in the title hunt and he could of won it with a top 1 or 2 in the 3200 . Obviously , the team title wasn’t a factor going in I suppose .
It was windy , but some kid ran 46.5 open . Crazy good
I think it’s time for Hobbs Kessler to move on to bigger things . Having this special coaching / training / traveling arrangement was borderline craziness ! Maybe getting away from the HS aspect of it!

Might have been part of why he ran on a team relay instead of the 3200. The HS aspect of it.

Why would he go hard at the state meet when he doesn’t have to? 😂
He’s training to make the Olympics my guy not peak at state.
That's still a pretty lame result for someone who can run over 20 seconds faster. He could broken the state record and not even gone all out. But whatever who cares I guess.
Josh Nobody on LetsRun is right, Hobbs should be trying to impress Josh and the other members of the Nobody family.
But really, lame how?? Lame to who?? To Josh Nobody? Like he gives a damn?? He’s a state champ! Good for him. He should be proud.

the guy that Kessler almost caught and then beat ran 46.8 on the 4 x 4
it's almost like he ran 3:34 last week and is a little tired? let him run to win instead of trying to crush another race. guys, we have to be careful with this one. he's a good kid. hopefully he doesn't read the forums.
He is not tired, he ran 1:47.91 in the morning. A decision to just run to win was made due to the way too windy conditions and almost 90+ temps.
Kudos to Miles Brown for holding off Kessler. That's such a brutal spot to get the baton on the anchor leg with a not-too-comfortable lead against an amazing runner like Hobbs Kessler. If Brown is a Michigan commit, maybe Willis and Warhurst were somewhat conflicted in their rooting interest.

I've seen worse violations of baton-dropping at the finish of a 4x8 at state finals in Michigan than that - at state finals the officials seem to let it slide.
Glad to see that Hobbs and his team were not DQ'd, and that the officials let it slide. I do see it as being the correct call, though sticklers who want to follow the letter of the rule will be frowning, and one team will be denied medals or ribbons by the lack of a strict rule enforcement. Too bad for them, though. The drop was so close to the finish line, and it was obvious that Hobbs would have finished second even had he held on to the baton. He may not be so lucky next time, especially if another team makes a formal protest (which may have happened yesterday, for all I know) - and he will take note of his drop and learn from it...so there likely won't be a next time.
I’m not saying it didn’t come out early, because I don’t care, but he in an extreme lean here, with baton in hand… so how far away could he have been at this moment?

Friend of mine just sent a screenshot he took of the exact moment it’s noticeably/clearly not in his hand- and it does look to be about a foot before the line. Definitely not a full meter before. That 1:47.9 earned the foot of forgiveness, I guess.
But yes, it “does make me less impressed with Kessler’s 3:34.” LOL

May have given it a shot if he didn’t go to the well in the 4x800. 1:47.9 is absolutely wild for a high schooler.
Isn’t that right about what Webb ran his senior year? And Webb had more pure 400m speed, so if the 800m is the break even point, his supreme Mile / 2 Mile capability make perfect sense.
Webb ran 1:47.7 and John Lester from California ran 1:47.65 this year after running 1:48/4:06 last year as a junior. Kessler is good, but he is not alone.

3:34
Who is with him?

“He’s not alone” in events that are not his focus. Like over 400m, “he is not alone.” LOL

Well that settles it. Frame by frame video proof that Hobbes dropped the baton. When I coached in the Baby Conference I told my runners not to drop the baton...BUT.... Hobbes dropped the baton. I have a ton of coaching ideas.

Well, another way to look at it is if he didn’t have the “magic shoes” on, he wouldn’t have even been in the position to be strenuously leaning for the win to the point of dropping the baton at all? Probably not.
So because of the shoes, he dropped the baton.
This is fun.
It would of been stupid of him to run hard!He will be running 3 races just to make the final at the OT.

Skyline does not (yet) have a good team. They were average in their conference. They had a 4x800 qualifier, Hobbs, and one other runner qualified in the 800 m but who didn't score points. At regionals, Skyline took 6th place with Hobbs running the 3200 in addition to 4x800, 1600 and 800.
A team that took 6th at regionals could have won the state title - but not because of better performances at state - because of asymmetry. A single elite athlete can win the state team title while a team is uncompetitive at conference and regionals. That's how the points work so fair is fair, but there definitely wasn't an objective to win the team title.
