John Lester just won an 800 with a 1:47.65 and may have a shot a the 800 HS record. Do you think he has a shot at beating Hobbs Kessler in an 800?

I think they can both run 1:46.XX if they ran a race together.
It’d be a close race. Lester is one of the biggest 800 talents we’ve seen in a long time, but the same can be said for Kessler in the mile. Anybody honks Kessler’s 400 or 1k PR? That would help

Know*
Kessler. He can close a workout in 50.x, so I don’t see how going through 400 in 52.5 will burn him.
Runs the 800 in 52,5-54,0 , low differential because of his strong endurance, for 1:46.5

If this is true, I'm very impressed. I didn't think baseball players were generally very athletic. For an MLB pitcher to also have the ability to run a 1:47 800 is astonishing.
