John Lester, Stanford commit, just ran 1:47.65 to win heat three of the 800m by over half a second. I’ve heard the kid dealt with an injury too, which prevented him from running in January and February. Future of American distance running looks as bright as ever.
From the front mostly solo...the announcers ("Jeff" and Chris Derrick) completely dropped the ball letting viewers know he is a high schooler. Amazing run.
I heard his younger brother Moe is even faster!

y’all giving this man all the hype when u guys seem to have forgotten who abdullahi hassan is. canadian ran 1:47 low as a junior (was 16 at the time as well) in hs back in 2019 outdoor season and placed third at the canadian national championships behind mcbride and arop and also broke the u18 record. would’ve been 1:45-1:46 if it wasn’t for covid. unfortunately, not one word was said about him, probably because he’s canadian. at wisconsin now and qualified to ncaa’s as a true freshman. watch out for him. y’all sleeping on canadian talent.

Agreed, but missing almost three months of training as a high schooler is a little worrisome. 17 year old 800m runners don't often get stress reactions/fractures.
Appears to be a Caucasian. Should move up to 5k/10k if he wants to medal internationally.
