Impressive run from Oregon’s Jack Yearian. He punched his ticket to the Olympic trials with his 3:37 1500m.
Ok. Can we admit the super spikes are crazy? Either that or Ben Thomas is a mid-d GOD?
A redshirt senior that I've barely heard of that ran the 10,000 at the Pac 12 meet a few weeks - the only time he's ever run the pac-12 meet in track during his Oregon career - just ran 3:37?
CONGRATS to him. He's going to the Trials but didn't even make it to NCAAs. Crazy good. Anyone know why he ran the 10k at conference if he was going for the 1500?
That being said. I'm getting less and less impressed by Kessler's 3:34 every minute.
That you say that about Kessler’s run diminishes my view of you and your perspective on the world of running in a way I never expected. Lots of wisdom and some differing views. But the conspiracy level of obsession with the shoes (I graduated HS in 1976, and shoes since then but before “super shoes” were all super shoes I wished I had had!) and then this sad and pessimistic view of Kessler’s run? Makes me ashamed of you, really. And I was never close. Or you are trolling in your own way. But shame on you. He’s a HS kid! Spoil the party a little? Need some time for reflection?? Who had exceeded all expectations. Kessler is similar to the idea behind the move “Without Limits”--he simply does not know he’s not supposed to be running with top runners so he does it. Supreme talent and a unique psych. He may become the Bolt of distance running. Or not. Either way it is fascinating.
And I would have loved the shoes you ran in competitively vs what I had in HS or college. No engines like those snuck into bike racing. Energy return. But likely a huge part of it is placebo effect. Which is why copycat shoes from other companies don’t seem to work as well perhaps? And maybe you can’t draw conclusions as you claim to (correlation is not causation said my stats prof) in a unique year, pandemic, less racing but better base training and then speed training built atop that, delayed run up to Olympics, everyone missing competition so much they came back with gusto, etc.
Honestly, though, Kessler’s running is truly impressive. No need to go into the less and less downward spiral. We would all love to coach a kid like that. And I know people who know him and say he is a great kid. Lay off the naysaying and trolling please. Until the super shoes blather I never felt anything but affection for LR and your work for it. I am "less and less impressed by the site" lately in fact.
