Phenomenal but I want Webb to reign 4 eva
Kessler has much more in there right now. He just has to acclimate running with faster people. He hasn't found his limit yet. Great run.
And those two commentators were worthless
Before I get fully on board I need to know if his prom date has conspiracy theory instagram posts?

Kessler finished fifth but less than a second behind Engels. Looks like he got boxed in slightly after the last turn so probably could’ve shaved another half second off his already amazing time. If he runs at the Trials I can see him nipping Engels.
The spikes have nothing to do with these times, it’s funny reading comments about the supposed advantage they offer. No clear evidence
SANTA CLAUS IS REAL!!! REAL, I TELL YOU!!! REEEEEEEAAAALLLLL!!!!

U.S. H.S. kids are long overdue for a contemporary like Hobbs to inspire them.

Is that a prereq or a disqualifier for you?
High probability he skips Brooks PR meet 😃

Meaning there are trillions of people in the world?

If you assume 8 billion people, that means 8000 people just as good.

Means 8000 are as talented. Of which like 10% would be in their prime (18-30ish). So that’s 800.
Of those 800, half or less would ever discover their talent — plenty never would for life circumstances. So of that 200-400 that realize they are gifted, plenty would do other sports and plenty would never link up with the right coach or have the work ethic necessary to reach his level. So he’s probably one of 10-20 in the world with the proper talent, work ethic, coaching situation, and life circumstance. Sky is the limit.

Not sure why you’d think that. Kessler isn’t running for 1st like Engels was. Engels closed just as fast and looked really good at the end. Great Kessler performance but I’m not gonna fault the announcing crew for not emphasizing the Kessler subplot. It was a great finish full of moves, fast times and storylines. Kesslers race while awesome was a bigger news story than commentary point during the race.

If you aren't into rock climbing, let me explain how much of a god this kid is. He is rock climbing at a level that is roughly equivalent to a sub 4:00 mile (5.14+). One of the most genetically gifted people of all time perhaps.
He’s phenomenal. Adam Ondra is breathing a sigh of relief that Hobbs seems to have chosen running. 😉
Seriously, I’m happy that most people here are excited about Kessler’s feats.

Almost everyone hit a PR in that race and it's crazy how often that has happened over the last year. That included Mason Ferlic running 3:35. He hasn't run a 1500 for 4 years so he was probably due a revision to his old PR. But he has run the mile. In 2019 he ran 4:01, last year he ran 3:58. His performance yesterday converts to a 3:53 mile. It's just not plausible that someone improves that much so late in their career without some kind of boost.
I'll enjoy the racing at the Olympics, but I can't celebrate times or records in the distance events anymore

Says you. Don't turn a kid into someone else's role model.

And please stop complaining about the shoes. Back in the day they had EPO, now they have great shoes, which is lots better. Just get OVER it.
Even though I'm a shoe believer, I love your post.
So true with the rankings and so true about EPO.
Anyone start the he should go pro thread? 🤣 Seriously we are talking about one of the few legit cases outther in HS or college where the answer might be yes. For a 340 guy DI is an awesome place to develop. For a 334 guy? Not so much...
This is a huge as step up.
He is a pro basically, trains with pro runners and goes to school outside of his running obligations
Kessler is a one-in-a-generation talent worldwide. Cole Hocker and Nico Young are both strong talents worldwide. Of european counterparts there is Jakob of course and then Max Burgin and Axel Vang Christensen. There are others too both in America and in Europe. I think the east-african distance domination will be challenged pretty soon.
