Seth DeMoor's reviewed one of its models yesterday and gave it the lowest score he has ever given a shoe.
I see them in stores and have seen them on people walking around town, but have never seen anyone running in them.
Does anyone run in them?

I am seeing them more & more but as noted more on walkers than runners. I think they're here to stay and will make the leap to being seen as legit the same way Skechers, Hoka, .....have done. I don't see them going the Newton route. Now as far as Puma goes.......???
On gives the shoe stores and the employees nice incentives to sell them . I also think the stores only pay for what they sell and they don’t pay up front. I forget what that’s called. So if you have the space, it’s a no brainer. I see plenty of people run in them. I have a pair myself. I like the cloud classic for runs in the rain. They don’t get bogged down and provide good traction. As a daily trainer though, they’re too stiff.
Overall though, the shoes are an acquired taste.

What's the route Newton went? Thanks.

Yeah, running specialty gets the highest realization (average percentage of MSRP that the gear is sold at) from On out of all running companies. You'd be shocked at what a low percentage of MSRP most stores get from most products (especially apparel).

I have a pair of Cloudstratus but thought the same so don't use them much. Nice to have as a backup though.

Yes. Speaking of, On apparel is excellent quality with great style. You get what you pay for. Their shoes are made with some great materials too, even though execution might be lacking. I know they’ve been working on a spike for what seems like 3-4 years now. How long does it take to copy a design and slap an On on it? Skechers makes fake shoes all the time.
It was a fad here for a while amongst Triathletes ...
6 months later no one is using them anymore
Terrible shoes and horribly overpriced
I am wearing a pair right now.
I like them for walking around, I've never run in them. And a warning:
THESE THINGS ARE SLICK IF IT IS WET!! I mean just walking I can feel it and Ive talked to others who've had some instances where they were sliding all over. So, yeah- don't even try to run in them in the rain.
If you like a light trainer the On Cloudflow is okay... not the best support but it’s a nice lightweight trainer that’s good for forefoot runners.
Don’t trust me though, I only ran in those twice before making up my mind that they’re going to be a lifestyle shoe. On are good looking shoes but not good running shoes. That’s why they’re more expensive than others.
Im curious to hear more of the On Cloudflyer. I bought the Cloudswift and love them for walking and they look good in jeans & joggers. Similar feeling to the ultra boost but not quite the same.
The hype is bigger than the actual shoe. I rather pay for a traditional pair of running shoes.
Now as far as Puma goes.......???
I called Puma and told them I run in Pegasus. I asked for a comparable shoe.
They suggested the Eternity Nitro.
I love it. I don't have a lot of miles on it yet, but I alternate with Pegasus 37 and I like the Nitro better.

About 14 years ago Newton made a big push with a uniquely designed shoe. Put on clinics anywhere folks would have them. A guy I ran with often really dug them and had some success. But they never 'took'. I think they tried some kind of restructuring plan a few years ago but haven't seen them resurface.
The target market for On shoes is Todd & Margo from Christmas Vacation

Yeah, I think Puma has as good a chance of making it as anybody. On has a way bigger headstart though and there seems to be way more brands now than any average sized running store can accommodate. As noted, On provides a better than average 'incentive' and I think that's why you see them muscling in at specialty stores. They can't all make it. Does Altra go by the wayside, Puma, Karhu, Topo???.......
I got a pair for free a few years ago. Did a few runs in them, liked them okay. (I'm not picky about running shoes, and switch frequently between styles and models and so on.) But then I wore them just for walking around a few times, and loved them. Just (barely) dressy enough to wear casually with jeans or shorts or whatever, nice and light (for walking shoes), flexible, and super comfortable even for very long walks.
They became my go-to everyday shoe, and when they finally wore out, I re-upped and bought a new pair at full price. I'd be perfectly happy to run in them, but given that they're pretty expensive I just use them for walking and stick to cheaper stuff for running.

This has been touched on in other threads. All other things being equal, why would one "trust" a running shoe company that takes YEARS to pump out a competing shoe/spike ??? Of course, it's not just On. The idea of that you have SHOE COMPANIES that have to let their athletes wear shoes from other companies.....wow. That SHOULD be hugely embarrassing. But in this world, maybe not.
Don't they collect rocks and sticks in those soles?

And it's funny to think of analogous or near-analogous situations in other industries. Ferrari drivers driving Mercedes. ANY other athlete openly using equipment not made by their sponsor. Burger King: Geez, that new McDonald's sandwich is REALLY good. We're gonna go ahead and sell theirs (....for a few years) until we can figure something out.
And then, of course, there is Nike's inability/unwillingness, over years, to freakin' slap some Zoom X foam on a thinner racer and replace the Streak/Streak LT.......

I'm surprised to see the love for them as a casual shoe because I think the little pillows look ridiculous. The uppers are very nice. I've worn out a couple of pairs of them running but haven't used them in a while. Decent shoe, I'm just surprised that they get the love they do for their looks.
On obscure running shoes, I bought a pair of Cole Haan "Zerogrand Overtake" shoes last year. I think a few years ago they had a collaboration with Nike called Lunargrand or something and CH's current running shoe offerings were spun out of that. I was skeptical but I like their men's dress shoes and they were on sale for $110 so I gave them a try and they are actually a pretty nice shoe. I don't think I'd like them for long runs or workouts but they fine on easy runs / moderate distance.
