Hard to believe it has been 12 years already.

In complete violation of the contract that ND has with Under Armour. Carlson and Sparks have been in violation of that for years.
Do you know for a fact that the UA contract requires track athletes to wear UA spikes? Moreover, I don't think ND cares what UA thinks. I expect they will dump UA at the next opportunity.
They don’t look alike. Yared looks much dorkier. Still love them both, for different reasons.
Turns out this was right. Link to video from story

Look. I love Nuguse as much as anyone. I consider myself to be the driver of the bandwagon as I said in SEPTEMBER that he was my lock for the Olympic team. Go to the 56:15 mark of the podcast linked below.
But we do need to remember that a guy who didnt even make the NCA A mile final indoors - Sam Tanner - ran basically the same time indoors. Yes, doing it solo is ridiculously more impressive.
https://podcasts.apple.com/tz/podcast/capriotti-out-at-nike-guests-russian-doping-whistleblowers/id383631335?i=1000492309382Good point. Nuguse's time today equals 3:51.9 in the mile but if you even out the shoes, this might be only a 3:54 in the old shoes.
Rojo I’m with you that the shoes matter (especially longer distances)…. But is it really 2.1s at the mile? (3:51.9 is a 3:54?) So anyone who could break 3:28 pre shoe can get the 15 WR now? Idk. Hard to say. Then, do you try to also take off some time for solo’ing it or not, etc etc, eventually I think you just have to say look he ran 3:34 and can probably run faster…. and if you look around right now that’ll put him in a good spot for NCAAs and USAs

I forgot to add… ‘the goose is loose!’
That was insane. Very impressive. It's crazy how much he has improved since high school. He's obviously at a new level.
I think the only person who deserves to say they led the bandwagon is the poster who said Yared would become the next Cheserek, nearly 3 years ago. YARED proved himself multiple times in 2019 . I think this past XC season proved he knows how to adapt, and these past two performances just confirmed it. No one was ever counting him out before this. That being said, I think this does put him in a completely different stratosphere now; him being in 3:32/3:33 shape is something I don’t think anyone expected. If you called THAT out, feel free to brag.

I’ve been on this train for weeks. Nuguse will make the Olympic team, and Hocker will too. Centro is cooked.
You realize these things aren’t mutually exclusive? All three can make the team.

I would add: And Coach Carlson put both together. Carlson and Nuguse have shown incredible faith in the plan: XC rather than indoor track; race sparingly; go out hard and hold it. These kinds of performances don't just happen. This started months, if not years, ago.
Nuguse and Suliman #1-2 at NCAAs
I know some of you Trumpers are thinking this so I'll just write it.
He has an American accent. he is 100% grew up here. Not an African import like you'd imagine Lagat. Now you too can support him!
Just incredible. I haven't done the research but I would be suprised if an Olympic 1500m heat has ever been won in a faster time than that! Anyone know for sure?

OR Ngeny 3:32.07, 2000. But you make a good point
Thanks! Definitely puts him in good company. Ngeny was an absolute legend. Still has the 1000m WR and a 3:43 mile pb, second only to Hicham Al G.

A weird obsession with Trump and implied racism at this point is just strange. It might be time to reconsider what you perseverate on. I dislike Trump as much as many, but It’s a bit of a mental illness/character flaw when taken to this extreme measure.

Are you kidding? It's not possible for Yared to be the next Cheserek even if he stayed in college for the full 6 years people are getting nowadays.
They are two tottally different types of runners and also runners on different trajectories.
King ches won 17 NCAA titles. Nuguse has won 1 individual and 1 relay. Yes without Covid he'd probably have 3 more? so what.
As a freshman, Cheserek won NCAA xc, NCAA 3k /5k and NCAA 10k. The next year, he repeated in xc and then won the mile and DMR and was runnerup in the 3k. When Nuguse was a sophomore, they babied him and let him run the DMR solely fresh. King ches was doing triple duty. Nuguse could satay in the NCAA for 40 years and he'd never win an xc title.
Now, when King Ches was a senior he was injured an no longer winning. I'm not saying one plan is better than the other but to say Nuguse is like Cheserek is flat out disrespectful to what Cheserek acccomplished.
I obviously wasn’t saying he’s better than Cheserek. It’ll be hard for anyone to measure up to Ches’s dominance especially when he chose to stay the full 4 years at Oregon. The original thread called out Yared as the next big thing before he had even broke 4 minutes FAT. As far as comparisons, I’d say Yared’s ability to win and his range are nearing Cheserek levels, though. It’s possible that, if these last two years had been normal he might have been up to 5 titles today. Btw, minor gripe, but relays titles either do or do not count. Cheserek won two relays with his DMR, so it’s either 15 to 1 or 17 to 2 for Cheserek vs Yared.
