New video from TotalRunningProductions. Rumors going around that Cheptegei, 5000 and 10000 meter world record holder will go after Daniel Komen's 25-year old 3000 meter world record time of 7:20.67. Will he be able to do it?
Will he use Dragonflys/supershoes?
Plugging his 5000m world record into a "Purdy" calculator predicts 7:16.25.
Daniels' VDOT predicts 7:12.53.
I see some think his recent 3:37, pre-season, at altitude, is too slow. Ignoring that 3:37 is unlikely representative of his true ability, running 3000m at 7:20 only requires 3:40 speed. So the speed is there -- the question will be whether he has the stamina to extend enough of that speed for 3000m.
Running a fast 3000m also fits in with extending his current 1500m speed to longer distances in preparation for 5000m and 10000m at the Olympics.
