Doesn't matter. Timothy ain't gonna let that pedestrian crap happen again.
When he "stepped down" at American U, he had actually been fired/told by the athletic department that he had to go. Would not be suprised if the same happened here.

Do you know why he was fired?

Ask any runner from American or the other DC schools about their experience at American. Culture of abuse and harrassment at the school. There was some kind of threatened legal action which may have been the last straw.
He was the first of a slew of coaches to be fired by American U for similar issues recently. Athletic department was either grossly negligent or turning a blind eye to situations with track, swimming, and wrestling.

what kind of abuse? or was it Gen Z entitlement?

He had a controversial experience at AU to say the least. Manhattan may have been the same but I have no idea. LetsRun did a huge piece on him when he was at AU. There was a lot of "not good" things going on over there. I'm not going to go over it in detail but I heard some of it right from the horse stable.
He called me once (returned my call) when I had a piece of furniture in my hand helping someone move and he hung up on me.

What are you guys talking about?
We didn't do a huge piece on Centro. When his book came out, I wrote about how I thought you should read it:
https://www.letsrun.com/news/2017/01/legendary-athlete-father-coach-matt-centrowitz-just-published-autobiography-suggest-read/and we published a free chapter of it:
https://www.letsrun.com/news/2017/01/letsrun-com-exclusive-read-chapter-two-matt-centrowitzs-new-book-like-father-like-son/I'd love to know what you are talking about. The people I know love the guy. Yes, he's quite the character and I can imagine a risk-adverse AD might not like him in the year 2021. Heck even in the year 2006 I'm sure the following profile of him didn't go over well with the AD. But I thought the following 2006 profile of Centro captured the Centro I'd heard about seen in my limited interactions with him:
https://washingtoncitypaper.com/article/237839/i-coach-you-run/When he left Amerian, I always wondered if he was pushed out but so what if he was. Almost everyone runs out their welcome after 20 years. When he went to Manhattan, I'm pretty sure someone told me his main duty was just to fundraise.

This is slanderous BS. The administration begged him to stay. They hired a Power 5 coach and the team has fallen really far since Centro Sr. left.
In 2019 their women were 29th out of 31 in the region and their men were 21st out of 25. Pathetic for a program that regularly produced national qualifying teams and All-Americans. They routinely get beat by non-scholarship teams in the Patriot League despite being one of 2 teams with scholarships.

Check the record on that one. American was pretty bad way before they got a new coach (who is not from power 5). They seem to just have some good individuals, never a good team after the 2000s. If I had to wager, it’s because Centrowitz was a drunk and made most of his recruits quit.
Sean was at Kentucky for five years (which is power five) otherwise you are right about them being bad for a while.
But did you hear about the time he hung up on someone who was carrying furniture!?

Wow, you a real victim. Have you pressed charges/made this public/sued civilly?
On a serious note, maybe you just shouldn’t have answered the phone then and sounded annoyed/tired on the phone? So he’s a. Busy guy and doesn’t really want to deal with that. But hey, at least you ran a slow 10k one time 40 years ago.
They won the championship in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. They got 2nd or 3rd for the next 5 years. As recently as 2013 they were 3rd in the conference. Qualified the team for Nationals 3 times.
No other coach at American will ever reach that level of success.
I was on one of the XC Championship squads at AU and I ended up leaving that summer. FOR ME PERSONALLY, I didn't think his coaching style was something that worked for me or a lot of people. He coaches you how he thinks he will get the most out of you, sometimes to his and your detriment. Clearly athletes like Kerri Gallagher prefer his style and have results to show for it.
A moment I won't forget is doing a workout at the AU track, and his daughter, Lauren, was working out with the girls' team. Mid-workout, he yells at her: "THIS AIN'T F@CK!N PALO ALTO" (she was competing for Stanford at the time). Can't say the guy isn't good for a few quotable lines.
I too ran for one of his championship teams. I ended up with a long athletic career and I can say in all honesty he was one of the best coaches I have ever had. I was lucky to have him as a coach and what I learned set me up for success later in life. The other runners liked him too from what I could tell.
