Tsegay ran 29:39.42 to win easily. Bahrain's Kalkidan Gezahegne was second in 29:50.77.
This was Tsegay's 10,000 debut and, just as at the Ethiopian 5,000 champs last month, she once again wore an adidas kit but Nike spikes.
With the 1500/5000 double quite difficult at the Olympics, could Tsegay be pondering "The Hassan" and doing the 1500/10k double in Tokyo? If so, she'd have to run the 1500 on days 4, 6, and 8 and the 10k final on day 9.
