I dunno. He's got a great last 100m, but we've only seen it against other college athletes. I really want to see him hop in a legit pro race. Yes I know CPT was in the race but he hasn't been in 3:34 shape in quite a while.

I'm not sure why it's really dumb to expect a guy who hasn't raced a 1500m in two years to be a step behind two 3:50 milers. But I guess you're never wrong about anything.
Making predictions is the point of the forum, regardless if they're right or wrong.
My next prediction: no NCAA runners will make the Olympic 1500 team (except maybe Suliman). I look forward to you calling me a moran when (if) I'm wrong!
Well because it is revisionist history that you thought he might be “a step behind” them. You thought it ludicrous that he was mentioned in the same sentence as them. Which was laughably dumb for anyone following running. Like everyone with a brain knew he was on a similar level.

A step behind is equivalent to not finishing in the top 3. Obviously he wasn't.
Do you predict that Nuguse will make the Olympic team?

And still no standard.
It's posts like yours that show the standards are an embarrassment to the sport. The US should be allowed to send any 3 that it wants.
We just had a great race and the first thing fans post about is some stupid standard when the reality is the standard was really only supposed to be like insurance policy for the world's super stars who were coming back from injury or something. Like 25% of the guys were supposed to get in on standard. Most were supposed to come from world ranking but things changed with the super spikes.

PS. I apologize for posting under letsrun in the 1st post. I'm sure Wejo will rip me but i was logged into the wrong browser.
seriously? if you can’t run under 3.35 you don’t belong in the olympics. not even just because you are from Uhmerica

No, really check, Nuguse and Hocker will not find a better "right race" as they are paced all the way to the wire. Teare can maybe run 3:35 flat in the "right race"
Hocker/Teare have run a 3:50 mile indoors. They likely went through at around 3:35 flat in that race. I'm not really sure what you're getting at. The 59-second third lap here killed the time here, and the collegiate system is not really set up in the championship season for PBs. But after the Trials, you'll see how fast these guys run.

Edward Cheserek ran 3:49.4 in a specially designed time trial indoors. It does not reflect his abilities outdoors in a real race. I am sorry to crush your hopes, but 3:36 flat is their max level at the moment. Teare can probably pull another second in a more competitive race.

when has Waleed beaten these guys at NCAAs? Cooper Cole and Yared are the top tier NCAA runners. Waleed is a great runner but he's on a slightly lower level. after 3:36 tho, I'm sure he will be out for blood.
only less than a sec off these boys
Yared proved me wrong, he can actually hang with the big boys. I don't care what anyone says, I still think his 2019 title was weaksauce compared to other current 1500 fields, even if it did have a weakened version of Olli Hoare. I am still picking Hocker moving forward, it looked like he ran a tactically poor race and got boxed in against the rail in the last lap, you can tell from his final 200 he had more left in the tank to give.

Did Hocker running 3:53 with a 25 second last 200 reflect his ability to race?

Indeed.

Yes, he has run 3:53.71 which calculates to 3:36.39. That is exactly my point. He has been towed by Teare twice this year to the wire without the ability to kick for the win.
I should say that Hocker is a strong middledistance prodigy at the international level with very impressive results for his age. However, there are reasons to believe that 3:36/3:53 flat reflects his current max level. He is hardly able to kick for the win at that pace.
Tanner maybe?

Yep, I think I definitely overrated Hocker. No disrespect intended to Nuguse. They've got to be kicking faster than that off a 3:36 to really be in contention for the Olympic team.
Looking forward to their next race.

Well he'll probably make the NZ team. But I meant the US olympic team. Also what's going on with Sam Tanner? He popped off once and seems to have regressed quite quickly.
How many Americans do you think are currently capable of 3:35?
ingebrigsten is in another league ( higher ofcourse)
Worth discussing how long Hocker / Teare can hold the incredibly high level they've been running at since February.

The fastest any of the Americans could muster at Mt Sac just now was 3:36.
So the three fastest U.S times in 2021 so far are all from the Oregon Twilight meet. I expect at least one collegiate to make the team.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
