But that's not entirely true is it? The standard was also meant to whittle down fields and make it so smaller countries can't send 3:40 1500 runners to the Olympics. Just go back to letting everyone send 3 athletes.

Hopefully this will put an end to the the Cole Hocker fanboys.

Put an end to?
There’s nothing wrong with being a fan of his. Hocker is obviously a great talent. That said, too many were overzealous about his capabilities and hyped him a bit much but there are big things on the horizon for him.
Instead of relishing Hocker’s defeat, we should be happy that we have as many good collegiate runners that we do. The future of American distance running is good.
What needs to end are haters like you.

Send the best 3 athletes??
We do.
336 with a 55+ last 400 = NCAA best = Not best athletes
Try 332 with a 52 second finish
In other words, Centro.
Your turn, fanbois.
Try not to shed a Teare
all this damn discourse and our olympic team is gonna be like gregorek, engels, and waleed

There are a lot of Centro haters out there. His 2016 Olympic Gold race is one of the best races that I have ever watched. Centro showed that he is a master at tactics as he brought down one of the best 1500 Olympic fields ever. Was it a slow race? Yes, probably the slowest in the last 100+ years. Times don't matter, though. All that matters is who ends up winning.

did centro really run a 332 with a 52 finish?
Hopefully Mr. Hocker has more in the tank this Spring.
Do you guys realize this was just a single race? It wasn't for any type of championship and it's not going to define anyone's career.
Where are the your move Hocker shirts?

I think we need to put this in it's proper context. I don't think anybody is saying these guys are shot and will never be anything.
the responses are more aimed at the guys trying to compare Hocker to guys like Jakob.
I think 1 or 2 of these guys definitely have a chance to go top 3 at trials, but are we looking at anything beyond that? It hasn't been shown for the moment. Will look forward to seeing what the future holds.

This might be the dumbest prediction I’ve seen with the trials 1500 all year.

Rojo vindicated: Cole Hocker should have gone pro straight after indoors and cashed out.
We do realize that this is an outdoor PB for Cole. He improved his outdoor PB by over 2.5s. That’s pretty good. Not sure how “bad” this race was.
The pacing was not as good as when he ran his indoor mile PB. So this could explain why this is not an absolute PB for him.
I don’t believe that he ever won against Teare in the 1500/mile before. He was almost as close to him than he was during the indoor mile.
It was not a “great” race for him (or Teare). But it was certainly not a “bad” race.
Could someone who understands the world rankings explain to me why Hocker doesn't have a world ranking? On his world athletics page I count 6 mile/1500 races in the appropriate window (windows as it were). Do some of those not count?
You need 5 1500/mile races, and he only has 4 as of may 4th (the last time they updated the rankings) He should be on there when they update it again on 11/05

Apparently its a hard target.
Yet 4 Australians have it
Hocker fans, don’t worry. Championship Hocker will be dropping 25 second last 200’s when it matters most. You will see in 1 month.
