Yared Nuguse has no chance against Hocker. It would be a good run for him if he comes top 3 in that field.

That’s the same argument as those saying that Centro’s gold is a soft fluke. On such things we just don’t agree.

Of course Nuguse has a chance. Hocker has not really had a bad day as far as I can tell. I doubt he is immune. Hocker has also benefited greatly from drafting until late in the race. Hocker is a little overrated by some because he is a one trick pony but it is a nice trick he has. Hocker can be beaten by Teare, Nuguse and others. That said, he would be the favorite here.

I hope this isn't considered hijacking this thread, but I see that Brenda Martinez is in the 800. I didn't realize she was still running. That could be an interesting result.
Anyone starting a pool on how many runners hit the track?
Due to strict social distancing measures implemented by the state of Oregon, Governor Kate Brown has issued an executive order that Brenda Martinez will have to run the entire race in lane 8, thus preventing any invasions of personal space.
Luis Perelta, 1:47 guy, will be pacing.
Funny how none of the OTC elite made it in the invitational heat lol.

I invite you to watch this race and report back, sir.

Is this confirmed? Will somebody else be taking it further than 800? With so many really good guys in the 335-7 range (Hunter, teare, west, hocker to start), it would seem like a battle to be two spots behind the rabbit. Perhaps Ben Thomas is taking care of that.

no, hocker runs one (1) paced time trial with his teammates so he is definitively in the time trialer club rather than the exclusive lrc "real racer" club
i had originally thought the "real racer" club was about winning championships in as slow of a time as possible, but actually it's just about how well you place when ollie hoare is in the race.
Lotta Nuguse doubters here. As someone posted here his performance at ACCs and then his XC/5k success means a breakthrough in the 1500 is coming. He's not a 3:39 guy any more.
He likes to really kick it into gear the last 100. It would be interesting to see if he can get away with that if he is chilling in the back with 4-5 guys heading into the straightaway.

I agree that he’s not a 3:38 ceiling guy this season but I don’t want to put too much weight on his first race back.

I expected this after seeing the start lists. No less hilarious though. How Rowland is still employed is beyond me.
Wheating's meet record from his breakout race way back when is surely gone.
if it makes you guys feel better it's not that i think nuguse isn't faster than 3:39, it's that i think hocker is faster than 3:35
Hocker has the new Hayward stadium record for 800m and 5k right? I say he runs faster than Oli Hoare’s time from Oregon relays and runs 3:33.1.

He ran a decent XC race and a 13:40 5k. How is this better than Hocker's accomplishments from the indoor season, or his recent 13:19 5k?

real racer club
I’m a Yared fan, but obviously Hocker has the edge here. It’s Yared’s first time at this distance in a while, and we aren’t sure how sharp he is. Plus Hocker is on fire. Yared will be in the race, though. And long term, (think pro career highlights) I think Yared has more upside.
Where can we watch this?
It'll be streamed on runnerspace +plus

What makes you think Yared has more upside?
