Is USPS run poorly compared to FedEx and UPS? My experience in dealing with USPS for years is that the employees are less motivated, extremely slow, entitled and overall grumpy. Whenever I deal with FedEx or UPS it's literally the opposite. I can't quite wrap my head around why this extreme difference in culture exists but I hate dealing with USPS.
Not my experience. My mailman is a friendly guy and has been delivering in our neighborhood for years. I have no idea who the FedEx, UPS, and Amazon guys are, it's a rotating cast of harried workers who throw stuff on your porch. And they're always parking their trucks in the middle of the street and tying up traffic, instead of pulling into an open space that might require an extra 50 feet of walking.
And have you ever had to pick up a missed UPS or FedEx delivery? You drive around to some dark corner of a warehouse, enter through a windowless steel door at the top of a fire escape, and then wait around for half an hour while they search for your package, only to tell you it's most likely still on the truck. The UPS stores are also similarly miserable.
I haven't had issues with the USPS.
Except last fall and winter when mail was slowed down due to cutbacks.
USPS still allows non-standard packaging and non-standard labels. I find that helpful, but they have a lot to do to rid themselves of their legacy businesses.
I think its due to people being idiots.
USPS customers schlep into the post office with an open box (or no box, or an unsuitable box), no tape, no idea what label to fill out for what service and then they clog up the line while the clerk tells them to try again or holds their friggin hand and gives them free supplies.
PEOPLE: PACK AND PAY AND PRINT A LABEL FOR YOUR BLOODY SHIPMENT AT HOME. Its stupid simple and you then simply drop the box off and leave, or even have it picked up by your carrier if you want.
The moronic customers are the problem at USPS.
UPS/Fedex: People have the package packed and ready to go, prepaid, because that is really the only way.
