Exactly! There is just no need to have a fast pace in a race like that. They obviously know they are fit and can finish off the race fast at the end... would of be pointless/meaningless to give it a hard effort the full 10,000 meters
Yeah sorry the America East doesn’t have two Olympic caliber athletes. What’s your 5K pr. I bet it’s from a race where you get a beer ticket if you finish. If you could run a single lap at sub 14 pace I’d throw you a parade.
For athletes of this level a 6:08 is far too embarrassing. Not saying you gotta try to PR or anything or run hard or "have balls" but come on. Viewers don't want to see guys jogging out there. Used to be a time when the crowd would boo that kind or effort in a big way. And 13:59...that's slower than most Tinman Elite prs by a lot. By most Letsrun poster standards those guys are bums and complete garbage right? Tactical races are exciting, just don't embarrass yourself out there. That's not a big ask.
That's why they are America East.
When I raced D1, I always had two plans - 1) if I was not leading and the pace was solid, I raced.. 2) if the pace slipped beyond PR pace that I was capable of running that day, I took the lead.
I was a 2x World Record Holder, 3x Olympian, 1x World Major Marathon Champ, 3x sub 2:06 marathoner, Sub 10 seconds in the 100, Long jump 27 feet, Pole Vaulted over 20 feet, 10 x All-Conference. 2 x All-Region. Different mentality. 2 x Conference Champ. 4 x Conference Runner-Up. I also discovered water on Mars, the Covid vaccine and am, as I type this, digging a well for drinking water in Africa. I donate my entire salary and bonus as a hedge fund manager to charity.

4:14 final 1600 seemed far from embarrassing. Was actually quite impressive. And yes these guys are bums and garbage in comparison to the Oregons and NAUs... but its the America East... lower your expectations

As someone in the race, the only embarrassing thing was allowing myself to get shuffled in a pack and allowing the only guy to worry about get the jump on the move. A 4:15 mile to close a 10K is pretty cool to watch. The fans were loving it the whole race. Also tell me your accomplishments and how I have been labeled a bum compared to you. I'll be sure to remember your kind words of support on my plane ride to Eugene.
4:14 is impressive but that doesn't mean that 6:08 is not embarrassing. Look dude. The average pace of the race was actually right at tempo pace for a 13:59 guy. I'm not asking for miracles or hero stuff. A 6:08 is actually in those guys easy-moderate pace range. That's embarrassing. No disputing that.
You are cordially invited to apply to be a member of the Tinman Track Club.
You don't have to be an athlete of worth to criticize someones performance or effort level. I don't believe athletes of your level (if you are who you say you are) or Tinman Elite are bums at all, in fact you are great athletes. I'm sure that if you weren't so hot from getting criticism for that 6:08 mile you wouldn't have misinterpreted that.

Look m8 times don´t matter in championship racing. Doesn't really matter how you start matters where you close. 6:08 is slow no denying that but it doesn't matter that they went out slow due to the circumstance of the race. If you want a quick 10k then college conference championships where you got people doubling back the next day aren't the place to look.

We got bigger goals than impressing you in a conference 10K. The end of the day I secured points for my team and left something to get more in a 5K. You have zero ground to stand on. I promise you that 6:08 mile is the least embarrassing event in my career dating back to middle school.

No ones asking for a quick time. I specifically wrote that. The race was entertaining, I didn't say it wasn't either just to out that out there. There's going out slow and there's actual jogging. As a fan that's not too much to ask for in my opinion.

Lol whatever you say big man. I'm not asking for anything impressive and yet I got that in the last 4 laps. Congratulations. Hopefully you correct your tactics next time out and win the race.
Thanks Mate. You keep hating. I’ll stay running.

To the average person (non-runner), 6:08 looks just like 5:08, or even 4:38. All looks the same to them. So no, this is not the reason track isn't popular.
