I am working up to 60 mpw. I run all of my miles at a 7:50-8:00 easy pace, with some occasional fartleks and progressions, nothing really specific. So, I am kind of wondering what kind of 5k shape I might be in by xc season which will start 3 weeks after I hit 60 miles per week.
I plan on holding my mileage at 60 for the last couple of weeks before the season because, from what I hear, the longer you stay at a certain mileage, the fitter you get, especially with a higher volume. Science.
My 5k pr is sort of irrelevant because I have not raced since last september, but it is 20:55. Not great, but up until that season started I was barely running at all and I gained all of my fitness just from the xc season, so it's really not too awful. At the time my longest run was 6 miles. That felt like such a long way at the time. Now I run 11 for my LR, soon to be 12.
Yes, I understand that there is no direct formula as to what exact 5k time I will hit, but I am just wanting to get a GENERAL estimate. Even estimates as vague as "sub 20" or "sub 19" would be enough. Here are the specs:
-I will be running 60 mpw
-pace will be roughly 7:50-8:00 for EASY days(sometimes faster, sometimes slower)
-I will be holding that mileage for roughly 3 weeks leading up to the start of the season.
Again, I know there is no exact conversion process. I am really confident I will be able to break 20, but do you guys think sub 19 is in the books? Or something close that I can work towards during season? Thanks in advance
