Once I reach my peak mileage here in a few weeks, should anything change? Obviously I want to hold that mileage for a few weeks to hammer that mileage and fitness into my system, but do I start throwing in fartleks and progressions, or do I just focus on doing the miles like I have been? I have not completely neglected the stereotypical base workouts-fartleks and progressions- but I have not structured them in anyway amongst my base. Whenever I feel good, I throw in a fartlek, or I push a progression. I don't worry about it too much.
But now that I am almost at my peak, should I just continue that kind of schedule? The XC season will start 2-3 weeks after I peak so I am not sure what I should do to make sure I am in the best possible shape. I don't think I need to be adding any race-specific stuff yet, because I don't want to have do something reckless and peak at the wrong time, but some stuff that would get my legs primed that I can do without lowering my mileage would be preferred. I will be peaking at 60 mpw, if that helps. This is what my weekly schedule will look like at max volume:
Mon-8
Tue-9
Wed-7
Thu-8
Fri-9
Sat-7
Sun-12 Long Run
I do hill 10 sec hill sprints once a week and 100m strides twice a week.
Should I taper my mileage in any way?
Should I add some specific workouts to my schedule?
Thanks in advance
