I was the second fastest guy on my HS team and got a 2:12 / 4:59 for the 800 / 1600 off of 30 MPW. But I never ran cross country despite being asked to multiple times by coaches and teammates.
While idly going through a "virtual 15th year reunion" page, one of my former teammates who ran XC in college jokingly asked whether I was finally "man enough" to run XC race this fall (he knew that I still kept running after graduation).
He's going to treat me to a nice steak dinner if I run unattached in a college XC meet this fall and manage to finish in the top half. I know there's not that much at stake (pun intended), but how realistic is that goal?
FWIW, my training isn't really structured right now and is sort of random and haphazard. Maybe 20-25 MPW with occasional strides, intervals, and time trials to break up the monotony. My most recent timed run was a 3:43 1200 at the beginning of the month (solo, but with spikes).
Any advice?
