Long story short, my last XC season was going well until the very well untill the end my coach told me to trust him and to taper, Regionals and States i bombed and had my worst race of my life at states. When that happened i felt so horrible that my gut instinct was telling me to keep training hard but nope i gave in and gave in to someone who doesn't know me.
Now my coach is telling me again to back off mileage and workouts, i don't really want to as i have my most success when i work hard and long mileage. He is claiming your body can't run well off of 3 workouts per week which dosen't show with me. I know what i can handle, i have been running 70mpw like it's nothing, doing workouts every week and have worked my way from a 4:40 mile to a 4:18 in 4 months, and im planning on getting that down to 4:15.
My coach said if you want to get a 4:15 1600m i have to trust him when there is tons of evidence that what im doing is working great. My does he want to change it so bad.
He told me "you have to listen to me, the reason you bombed states is because you were doing workouts left and right without my permission." Which is litteraly the opposite of what i did, the last 2 weeks, i stopped doing my long run, stopped doing my v02 weekly workout and listened to him and had my worst race of my life.
Tapering dosen't work well with me, PS my coach is a really good guy, i genuinly feel bad when i go against what he says and even questioning him but im telling you, the program does not work for me. I know this is so long, but please offer advice, im kind of in a emergency situation.
