I have a 5k in 16 weeks and I’m looking for advice on how to structure training. Actually the races planned are
16 weeks then 5k race
4 weeks 5k race
4 weeks 5k race
8 weeks half marathon
7 weeks full marathon
I’m 27 y/o M. Running consistently for 2 years but on/off before that. Typically 50-70 mpw but have been as high as 85. PRd my 5k this weekend 15:49 was racing to win and went through 2mi in 10:03 (also a PR) with then blew up, HM PR 1:13:45.
I was planning on base training with strides and long runs for 8 weeks before introducing work outs for the 5k, add in HM work after the 3rd 5k that’s many a little more volume than normal so that it also helps with the marathon prep. Also trying to keep long runs in the 17-20 range so the marathon training isn’t a complete shock come December. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
